My Thoughts
This is a reply to a certain user on the forum...who got banned for insulting the Fable community. It's the fact that he didn't share intellectual reasons for not liking Fable that i'm here today, to give you this thread. Mark it as spam, close the damn thing, hell I just want this to be read to remind you all why we enjoy Fable, and Lionhead alike.
Fable is a game of choice, and emotion. Most video games choose for you through out the story, but there was one gaming company who changed the formation of games. Lionhead. And with it, the innovative minds of Artists, Developers, and Writers forged a game that had many promises. Some promises did not appear. But nonetheless, I still post on here for these reasons.
Fable represents you. It represents not only what roles you would choose, but roles you would like to choose. It sends you to a different world of magic and mystery, yes. But it has realism to it. For every choice, a consequence. It's those moments in your life, when you're born...when you're a kid...when you're an adult that not only make you different...but make your future. But fable also shows that fate can be altered, people can be changed, families can be broken, etc. It is that premise that is the art of fable.
It's the fact that you’re just this little boy or girl, spirited and high hoped, and then everything around you is destroyed. The tree you once ran by is split in half, the bakery you bought goods from is now mere ash. And worst of all, your father is dead. And you fear your sister is too. And you stand on the brink of fate, around the fire and shadow glooming about, that you wonder: Why do I keep living?
Fable answers that. Through adventure to the darkest forests to the coldest mountain tops, it comes to a point in fable that you ask the question again (why should I keep going on). The answer is for the things you have left in life. When the guild was burning, I knew that I wouldn't pass this like I did in Oakvale. Fable made me have emotion. And I knew that my sister would probably leave, my father would be forgotten, and my mother would perish under stone. But I would move on for the people I had left. And, myself.
Don't get me wrong, Fable is just a game. But aren't games supposed to give emotion? Keep in mind, emotion ranges from several things. The love for the people, the love for the killing, the love for...love (or hate). And also other things. And I keep seeing the same games coming out, the constant games where I am led into a situation...rather it being my fault or not. But Fable, on the other hand, leads me somewhere. Leads me to several paths that I could and could not take, and even more.
It also seems like games are showing the simple fight against good and evil. Well naturally, the fight isn't that simple. Really, there isn't such thing as good or evil. Rather we need to classify the choices you make.
Alright...that made no sense. So let me explain bro,
In Fable, you started out as a spirited boy. Now through out the game, you could of became a caring warrior. Or, a neutral Assassin like me. But also something else. A sinister warlord. Fable shows the Macbeth style of games, and also the style of life. I mean c’mon, no one stays really good or really evil through out their lives, so why do we even classify good and evil? For example, Maze seemed like a good mage...until he was corrupted by Jack of Blade's power. Doesn't that remind us of today?
This might sound crazy, but even Hitler was 'good' at a point. That leads us back to the choices we make. And what game really shows the choices we make? Fable.
Yea, sure, KOTR is a game like that. But I never really felt good or evil. I never felt that I could be in that situation, I never felt emotion. Of course, Fable showed me emotion.
In other action games, it seemed like I would just do this and that to precede to the last level. I never felt like this happened because of me, or this happened because of the past. I just felt like I was dropped from a ship into a random situation. Again, Fable is different. When I’m in a fight, I know, like in real life, that the choices I make effect the people around me...and my future.
^All of those reasons were simplified. For all the Fable haters who can't understand what I’m saying, I’ll be glad to 'length' it.
Wait right thereFable hater, I know you want to leave because all I’m talking about is choice and emotion. To me, that's important. But Fable also has action. You might stupidly ask:
"No it doesn't, it's just button mashing boredom"
And I would ask, why is that?
And they would say "Because fable is weak. Go Oblivon!"
OK, Oblivion is a good game. But saying Fable is weak is just like saying George W. Bush is smarter than Einstein.
But does Oblivion have these things:
Epic boss fights against Dragons to Krakens.
A wide variety of spells, with a wide variety of levels to them and variations.
Awesome enchants to your weapons which add to the clear customization. Oblivion has this, but Fable really shows how much enchants effect.
A wide variety of classes. Again, Oblivion has this. But Fable has classes you would actually like to play. Fable is simple. You can be a warrior, a ranger, or a mage. but you can also intertwine the classes to your liking. For instance, I can use bows and spells...or bows and swords. Alright, Oblivion has a lot of spells, too. But I don't see triple arrow shot spells, fun spawning spells, lethal destruction spells, etc etcetera. Instead, I see red fire blobs. Lightning. And increases in stats. Fable shows me the effectiveness of my spells. Spells like rage makes me buffed up, and I can beat the crap of foes that would be harder to beat normally.
Keep in mind, this is my opinion. But Fable haters, have you forgotten why we play Fable? Like I said before. we play Fable because of how it made us something through choices. We start out as a mold of clay, a child, who can later be formed and reformed into several things.
But it isn't that simple. We feel something. We remember the day Maze took your hand at the massacre of Oakvale, we remember the day where we had to heroically fight the mighty Dragon atop the volcanic wasteland. And we remembered the people we met along the way, the friends and enemies we made, and where they are now because of us...because of our choices.
And we also remember the day we held that mighty sword. Gripping it in our hands, we had to choose whether to keep its power...or send it into the seeming less depths of hell in front of us. And we felt like we could change the future. We could remember all the past times we had, saving lives, killing lives. And like in old movies, it all came down to this because of our choices. The choices we felt were right, the choices we might feel are now wrong.
But fable shows you can't go back to a level to change your fate. Like in real life, you have to deal with what you've done. But when we also held that sword, we remembered how much we've changed since we were a child in the game. I mean, I myself look at this sword and go: "What the hell am I doing man, look what I’ve made myself...I wish I never was here". But I came back to focus, and threw the sword into the depths. The Sword of Aeons was off of my grasp. And I was glad.
Again, the game makes me feel emotion I have never felt. That might not be the case for you, but then again you are a Fable hater.
And now, a new age begins. Alas, Fable 2.
So Fable haters, you want to know why we still like Fable?
Because chances are, we're gong to get the same performance we had in the first one, and more.
Because we will feel our choices, and we feel how they affect us. Fable relates us to life, simply.
And because sure as hell, our game is going to be a hell of alot better than yours. Peace.(even to you, Fable haters)
Cheers,

----And I am damn proud to still be here. I've matured through out, and I’ve become a real fan of Fable. There is one thing the fable haters don't have; a forum that is unified. As one. And it will always be that way.
