Need to post on forum once to....

Need to post on forum once to be able to personal message people. This would stop nearly all spam on the site for a long time. Inbox spam is not something thats occured to me but having this feature would mean that inbox spam would be minimalised as it is mostly just bots that spam the site.

Very nice idea, ali1238! It's actually something we've looked into before, but the forum software itself does not offer this kind of feature. We'd have to install third-party plugins in order to accomplish this and I'm of the mind that: the less plugins, the better. Mainly because plugins can have an affect on forum performance.

On the plus side, this forum has excellent anti-spam defences built straight in. The reason very little automated spam manages to slip through the net is because we've already tweaked and fine-tuned what we've had available to the best possible settings. Naturally, we do get some spammy threads sneaking in but those are almost always by individual users and not bots.

However, as soon - and if ever - spambots manage to find a way past the forum's security and starts spamming PMs to our entire userbase then we'll definitely consider installing some plugins to counteract this.

I've gotten no spam at all.
However, we could simply stop using the pms and resort to email if it ever seems needed.

Using PM's doesnt effect the amount of spam at all.

I think ali1238 meant that you can only use the Private Messaging System after you have successfully posted

This means regular spammers and bots etc can't immediatly send a wave after wave of spam PM's to you, because they would need to post first (which spammers/bots/adbots etc don't tend to do lol) ^__^

Correct, though most never use PM's as a way of advertising just the clever ones it seems. :lol:

Dont get anywhere near the spam here that we do on DMC.org.
