New virus
A new worm called Conficker, sometimes referred to as Downadup, has generated a lot of interest in the media recently. The worm works in three stages. In the first, it infects a PC, either online or - in a nice retro touch recalling the days of floppy-borne viruses - a USB thumb drive or storage device. Next, it "phones home" to a rogue web server controlled by Conficker's creator (whom F-Secure has identified as a Ukrainian hacker), letting the server know the PC is infected, and now open to receive a payload of malware. To date no one has identified what that payload is and that has generated a lot of concern.
Keep your virus software up to date and make sure you have the current Microsoft Security Updates loaded.
Just sending out the warning.
