This is more about me venting than constructing a useful post, but maybe it'll be helpful to someone who is thinking about buying one of the new xbox 360s...

I ordered one with a 250GB hard drive from the GameStop website earlier this month for my boyfriend's birthday. I gave it to him this past Saturday and he was super excited about it... until it started making really loud noises... and freezing... after THREE DAYS!! Considering that I spent FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS on it (after taxes, shipping, and the Halo Reach game it came bundled with), as you can imagine, I am supremely ****ed off right now. None of the local GameStops have it in stock so my only option for exchanging it is mailing it back and waiting for another one. Maybe I just got unlucky and it's a fluke, but only one of my friends has the new 360 and he has already had to return his too (it lasted a couple months rather than a few days, but still....).

Maybe this doesn't seem like a big deal because I can probably mail it back GameStop and get a new one in a couple weeks -- but there's nothing worse then giving someone the perfect gift that they really, really wanted and then seeing how disappointed they are when it breaks after three days. Epic fail for you, Microsoft.

I hear the new ones are really bad with overheating. Havent heard much good about them.

Yep, Microsoft sure do like to screw their customers. My xbox broke down a few days ago, I'm just glad I have a PS3 aswell as a 360.

this is the notorious xbox we're talking about....
that's like being surprised a puppy shat indoors before being house broken. the thing has a 1/3 chance of failure from construction.

it sucks that it had to happen with a gift, but i wouldn't buy a slim for at least another year. let them make the hardware a bit more stable before investing in it.

I havent known anyone who has had any trouble with the newer models yet.

After I calmed down about the thing not working well in the first place, I called GameStop customer service about mailing it back and exchanging it for a new one. They told me they wouldn't be getting another shipment until January, so I was pretty much screwed until then. So I ended up returning the whole bundle (250GB xbox + Halo Reach, which is a game my bf hates anyway, but was the only available option at the time) at my local store, getting my money back, then buying the 4GB xbox and a separate 250GB hard drive for it... so in the end, my bf didn't have to wait til January to get his xbox with a 250GB hard drive, I got about $30 back, and I don't have to worry about trying to find someone to buy Halo Reach off of me. All in all, not a bad ending I suppose... lets just hope this one actually works!!

This is why I only purchase Used Games at GameStop. Everything else from consoles to games, I buy from a computer store i love so much online.
