In an E3 interview with Newsweek published on Wednesday, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the number one obstacle for his company would be in avoiding the arrogance associated with the massive success of its recent products, namely the Wii and DS.
"Nintendo's next obstacle is to not lose its internal energy and internal momentum," Iwata told Newsweek. "I believe my most important role right now is to prevent Nintendo from being in a company where people say, "Oh, Nintendo is arrogant," "Nintendo has let its guard down," or "Nintendo has lost its challenging spirit." We want to avoid all of the pitfalls that can come from losing one's momentum."
Arrogance is largely credited for Nintendo's fall from grace in the middle Nineties in which the company made several poor strategic decisions resulting in the loss of market share to Sony's fledgling PlayStation.
In a related story, George Harrison, Nintendo's senior VP of marketing, told Motley Fool that "neither" the Xbox 360 or PS3 was a threat to Wii dominance.
