Emergent Game Technologies announced on Wednesday that their popular game engine, Gamebryo, will now support Wii titles. Gamebryo is best known for powering Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
The middle ware platform is said to speed up development while reducing costs so designers can focus on more critically noticeable tasks such as graphics.
"With the success of Nintendo's Wii console catching much of the industry off guard and offering fresh interactive features, developers need new tools to be able to develop for multiple platforms that offer vastly different capabilities and require different programming techniques," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "Gamebryo for Wii simply sets a new standard for middleware designed for this top selling platform."
What does the news mean for Wii owners? Not much in the short term. But Gamebryo support, in addition to others, is sure to ramp up development and perhaps accelerate the optimization of Wii's inferior graphics.
To date, the Gamebryo engine has been used on more than 200 games.
