Okay it says return to family and its showing that trail
behind my wife what does it want me to do to my wife??

If you have a quest with a note that is like check note for instructions they do not mean any thing.

did you just get back from the spire or something, or did you set you trail to your family

yeah I finished the game and I'm just trying get all my quests done
I didn't set the trail to anything everytime I finish a quest it keeps
saying return to family...

I've read about a lot of people having a problem with this. What worked for me was to simply interact with all members of the family for a little while.. and then leave. That cleared the "Retribution" quest.
