Old Familiar Places
Old Familiar Places
It has been so long on this road
So many stories we have told
Around the fireside we sat
While the coals of our life sparked and spat.
Ditches and trenches and bumps innumerable
Along with sun and wind and rain
Spraying against these old familiar faces.
We are all so far from home.
We should go back, some would say.
What would we become then,
If we were to stay?
The road and the river calls,
Whether it is through gravel or over waterfalls.
Footsteps to a minute,
The tracks we leave are signs that
We have done what we came to do.
All we have seen,
With the scars in-between,
All we have done,
In search of sadness and fun,
Laughing between the tears
Flowing from eyes made worse for wear.
We were betrayed so many times
By the heart bewitched by these rhymes
Of love of life of living
Hoping to be set free by the free ranging arrow
Sent by cupid
To make so many act
So very stupid.
Over dale, across wood
Go as far as you should,
Never to look back
To see the people
Staring at your tracks.
Blow wind blow,
Sway our lives
To and fro.
Show me a home now,
Where nobody goes.
I will wander this earth’s crust
For I can never satisfy my wanderlust.
I see shadows behind each of you,
While the sun shines on your faces.
You know what you went through,
To reach again, these old familiar places.
