Olives

What is it that makes Olives so nasty? The first time I ate one I almost threw up. I recently ate some more (chopped up in small pieces in a macaroni salad) and I couldn't finish it. I can eat black olives in subs (those are what the black rings are, right?) but I can't seem to eat them any other way.

Anyway, what's in them or what are they put in to make them so gross? I can't describe the taste and would like to know what it is.

I forget what the brine is, Olives are inedible until softened in the brine and such, they are nasty because of the brine, choose what you will.

brine is just salt water. they also add yeast and something else so the fermentation happens sooner. I don't know if it's the yeast though. I love pickles and they are put in brine, so I don't know if it's just that.

i eat my pasta with olive oil every time.

if you've ever had spaghetti with olive oil, parmesan, basil, and garlic, you would know what it's like to get into heaven.

Olive oil isn't a problem. I really don't think it's the olives themselves, but the stuff they're put in.
AND NO ONE IS HELPING ME FIGURE IT OUT. >(......>D

I don't know how they're made or anything, but black olives are f*cking awesome. Sausage and olive pizza is the best. Any other kind of olive sucks though. A lot. They're so god damn bitter and disgusting. I don't know why black olives are so different from the rest.

I HATE olives with a passion but my girlfriend loves them. I cant even stand the smell of them so i make her move away when eating them. :lol:

Agree Drakan, they're friggin disgusting. I've got a friend who's a bit of a nincompoop who had never even heard about olives before. When we got it on our pizza I jokingly said that they were grapes. "Ah, okay" he said and popped a few in his mouth.

His facial expression was priceless.

Agree Drakan, they're friggin disgusting. I've got a friend who's a bit of a nincompoop who had never even heard about olives before. When we got it on our pizza I jokingly said that they were grapes. "Ah, okay" he said and popped a few in his mouth.

There arent many foods i dislike or refuse to eat but i just cant stand them. I actually gagged when i tried them.

Apparent;y it is the oil after all... But in combination with the rest of the olive, there may be some nasty combination?...

Anyway, I like olives. ^_^ They're tasty. Not at all disgusting. You shouldn't eat them rapidly though, it's indeed nasty. But the bitterness has a nice bite to it... '

Olives are manky. My sister loves them, I hate them. I'll only eat them if I don't know it's happening like if you cut them up all tiny and stick them in something like a pasta dish of some kind.

The smell, the texture, the look - yuck, And black ones look like big fat flies with their legs and wings pulled off
