Re: Olympics

I watched women's curling for the last couple of days. It seems like an interesting sport, but that's not why I was watching. The Russian, American, and Canadian chicks are hot enough to melt through that ice. The German chicks were lacking eyebrows, had a crotch bulge, and were muscular enough to punch a hole through a tank. But back to the hot ones, there's just something to be admired about fit women working in a concerted effort to do something entirely foreign to me. I was confused in watching this event, I didn't understand it. It's like trying to communicate with the Swedish maid who speaks no English whatsoever, but her eyes say that she wants you to keep trying.
Not to be crass, but yeah. Seriously, so many sports with attractive women in skintight uniforms? Awesome.
And yeah, curling is one of the weirdest sports I've ever seen, faintly absurd and somehow awesome.

Im a Brit who doesnt like cricket so im in the minority that doesnt care. =]
Heard that we had won a gold last night for the first time in 30 years (individual) at the Winter Olympics. Dont watch it or care but thought id add that in here.
Our winters suck we have a little snow sometimes and mostly cloud and rain. Training is done on fake snow in snowdomes or another country. We arent naturally gifted at winter sports.
Yeah, apparently our men's figure skater got gold for the first time since the 20's? I found that highly amusing. Almost as amusing as his costume and the way his gay old coach was kinda groping him afterwards.
We're pretty good, in some areas. I hear we get our asses kicked in curling, though.

You make me laugh - I'm sorry to crush your views but very few countries outside of America play Baseball, the Caribbean and maybe Japan are the only two I would really count.
On the other hand, Cricket is apparently quite popular in a lot more countries: the International Cricket Council has 104 member countries.
I'm not a Cricket fan myself (Terribly boring to watch or play) but I couldn't help correct the claim that Baseball is played in more countries.
US, Canada, Venezuala, DR, Japan, China (some, anyway), Cuba (dear GOD, Cuba), South Africa (a little), Australia (not a big sport there, but their softball team was damn good, as I remember) Korea, Taiwan, and those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head or I KNOW are good. Hell, last time they had cricket at the Olympics only four teams signed up and only two actually bothered to come (admittedly, at the time all those Commonwealth countries were still colonies, but still.) And hell, I was even nice and left out Puerto Rico, even though they have an independent Olympic team.
And the International Baseball Federation has 116 countries, while the International Softball Federation has 127. Remember, they're two separate sports, even though I didn't differentiate much there. And softball has men's and women's softball, too, in addition to just men's baseball.
I don't see how 104>116, let alone 104>127.

Well, it did originate in Greece. You guys host your own worldwide sports tournament, and you can have whatever you want in it.
New Zealand and the West Indies are pretty big on it (the West Indies are easily bigger fans of Cricket than they are Baseball), as well as Bangladesh and Zimbabwe (but we're not talking to them at the moment). A few other countries like the Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland give it a go, but they're not allowed to play test matches.
Nope, the ancient Olympics originated in Greece. The modern Olympics are French in their origins.
And yeah, we've hosted it repeatedly. When was the last time the French had the Olympics? The benefit of being rich, arrogant pricks. Hmm, maybe that has something to do with the French who run the damn thing taking out our trademark sports? EDIT: And anyway, what do you mean "our own worldwide sports tournament?" The point of the Olympics isn't that they're France's, or Greece's, or anyone else's. The point is that they're an international event for friendly competition between the nations. ALL the nations. Not just the ones who control the IOC or founded the modern games or anything. EDIT2: My italicized bits there are not terribly relevant or coherent, but I felt I should leave them rather than pretend I never typed them.
Well, yes, that's what I was talking about. Note that all of those are former Brit dominions and colonies? Only the Commonwealth countries play it.
EDIT2: And which portion of the West Indies do you refer to? It's a damnably slippery term. Though, yes, I would assume you refer to the "West Indies Cricket Team." Which is an international team.

The Winter Olympics is the only sporting event I try to watch. I say try because due to it being sent live, most of it starts 2-3 o'clock in the morning. I've just got this obsession with snow, and seeing all the wonderful snow and stuff actually makes it interesting somehow.
Plus, us Swedes tend to perform quite decently at these winter events.
Yeah I was pretty impressed by the Swede who busted her ass. (That sounded sarcastic. I mean she fell, was all bruised and battered, and then came back and managed to get the gold. It was impressive.)

Shame about that kid who died during his training run.
Yeah, that's just terrible.
