Am I the only one who hates stupid chat speak (leet) I cannot stand it... I used to only use LOL and JK... but I am so tired of it, that I don't use it at all... and I don't respond to people who use it while talking to me. It is completely ruining the English language. Even more than that... I hate when people use it in face to face conversation... that annoys me the most. Your thoughts?

Yes I agree, like when people say lyke or tyme, not even an abbreviation, bloody incredible.

Yeah, it is annoying... like you said, it's even worse when they actually say the crap in person. I mean really, someone calling someone else a "n00b" and "I pwned j00!" in person is just disturbing.

I on rare occasions do sometimes use "lol" but that's pretty much it when i don't feel typing out "hahaha" or a laughing smiley.

Maybe sometimes it fills and function. Like in online gaming, when you need to say something in the chat very fast.

But in IM-conversations... WHY? Type out your damn words! It makes you appear a lot intelligent and eliminates the chances of misunderstanding.
And whats even worse- using Lol in real life conversations! Why use an abbrevation when it takes no effort atall to say "heh, funny"?

Exactly... I can somewhat deal with it in IM... but barely... but in real life is just dumb as **** and very un-needed

Yeah i really dislike it and only time i ever really use 'lol' is when i send messages to people on phones as my Smileys suck. :lol:

My smileys on my phone don't come out properly either - and then I end up overexplaining that I was being sarcastic/joking/sincere or whatever and end up going over my text limit...grrr....

Mine seems to look ok on my phone but when i send it to someone else they get something entirely different. :lol:

I use it in IM all the time but I HATE people who do it in real life... I can understand saying Lol on computer and Jk and stuff but I don't like it when people say "1 PWN3D j00 n00b"

Abbreviations are different to creating a completely new language out of laziness. Won't be long before entire exams will be conducted in this bizarre youth language and you'll fail if you spell any word of more than three letters with the actual letters it's supposed to consist of.

It bugs me so much because I am dyscalculic and seeing a bunch of numbers in place of letters means it is barely decipherable to me...at least you guys have some vague chance of working out what's being said...
