My friend has a virus on her laptop and wants to do a destructive full system restore, but everything she tries doesn't work. She has an Acer, she thinks, operating on XP.

She has tried the F8 trick, but there is no option for system restore.

She's tried eRecovery but she says that hasn't worked either.

Any help would be appreciated.

whenever i have that, i do the destructive computer shutdown... that is, holding down the power key and forcing it. windows automatically reports it didn't shut down correctly and voila! system restore.

Really? I'll try it myself. If I come back with a nearly destroyed computer, Likes to you :)

EDIT: It just brought up safe mode options for me.

right, i'm saying that you should boot up system restore (run as administrator) from safe mode.
every virus i've ever had that tried to block system restore wasn't active in safe mode, so i was able to execute it.

if my fix-all solution doesn't work, you may want to ask someone who knows more about computers.

Everytime I get a unkillable virus:

1. Boot from Windows install disk
2. Delete system partition
3. Reinstall Windows
4. ???
5. PROFIT

Looks like Shiro wants to get into somebodies panties.

If only that worked, Hobbe, I would be boning up on how to give people viruses so fast...

(That sentence was so deliberately horrifying you would not believe.)
