Perfect Blue
For some reason, Swedish telly decided to throw a anime marathon - late in the night. It is currently... 3 in the morning over here, but I am still kicking it. After having watched the masterpiece 'Spirited Away' I thought "Wow, it's going to be hard to top this...". Or so I thought. The next movie was;
Make no mistake, this is a "adult only" movie, but not in the way you might think. It aint hentai, sorry to dissapoint, but rather a very good thriller! It is about the young pop-star Mima who stars in a j-pop band of three called CHAM!.
But she grows tired of being a popstar and decides to become an actress. But it doesn't quite go the way she wants, and after being talked into doing a rape scene and later doing a shoot for an 'adult magazine' her fans are shocked by the move, but as the remaining members of CHAM! keep the band togheter, most of them forget the 'betrayal'. But some aren't so forgiving, and 'some' is of the fanatic stalker kind. Mima herself becomes deeply troubled by the rape scene and as the people around to her end up murdered, she starts having flashbacks of her being their killer...
All in all it is an awesome movie. Lots of bloody murder and lovely nudity, I wholeheartedly recommend it if you are an anime fan and have the craving for something dark and rather troubling! But if you can't stand a movie that does it's best in keeping you in the dark, constantly thinking "What the hell just happend?!" - it isn't for you. It constantly jumps back and forth in both time, space and in reality. Not until the last few minutes you get the "Aaah-haaaa...." feeling - and it doesn't fail to deliver. The ending is worthy of a Hitchcock movie.
So go watch it! Now! But be warned, the rape scene, although not real, disturbed me deeply. The guy getting a screwdriver in the eye with blood going everywhere is OK - but I just can't stand rape.
