Photoshop Question

So i'm helping my dad render a picture in photoshop, but I can't seem to draw without covering up the black ink-lines that we want to stay, is it possible to make the background layer or a different layer be transparent or something on top? So that when I color it, I get the color showing through but the black lines stay solid and clearly visible? Reply ASAP please :D working on it now but don't want to continue without being able to do this.

Re: Photoshop Question

in the corner of photoshop where the layers are kept just above tht there is a option for opacity which is transparency, select your layer and change what you need.

Re: Photoshop Question

erm not too sure now, have you tried putting ink lines layer on the top of all other layers, maybe send me a screenshot because words isnt helpful enough to awnser it

Re: Photoshop Question

I'm afraid the best you can do Jakuro is to create another layer on top, trace the lines and use that as the outline for your drawing. You can then create another layer underneath this outline layer for your colouring.

Another method you could use would be to create another layer on top, colour it all in fully and then when you're finished go back around the outline using the eraser tool to erase any part where you overlapped.

It is impossible to just colour and have the lines drawn by your father appear as an outline because the scanner registered the blank areas as the colour white, and not transparent space.
