Premier League Football..

No, I don't care if you don't like football.

If you watch the Premier League (I'm guessing you'll either be from the UK, Ireland or possibly European?) then you'll probably have the same thoughts as me.

Is there any point of it?

Every year, either Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United win.. So, honestly.. Who cares? It's always the same teams in the top, always the same in the bottom.

I remember the 90's.. When every team had a chance of winning.. Now? Meh.

Do any of you agree?

Btw, I support Newcastle and unless you live in a cave, you'll know why i'm being bitchy.

Re: Premier League Football..

Well you will likely be in the Championship next season so wont make a difference to you. Im a United supporter and have been since i was 5 years old. United, Liverpool and Arsenal have fought over the years for their superiority and gained money from winning so many trophies and gaining support. Thats why they have the money to spend on players and continue to win year after year. Chelsea are owned by a multi millionaire and only started competing for the title when they bought millions of pounds worth of players but even that hasnt helped them win the Champions League yet and took them 50 years to win the league. Manchester City are a key example of when money doesnt help you win everything. On the day any team can win (Fulham beat us a couple of weeks ago) and this year has been the closest title race since i can remember and will go down to the last day of the season it seems. Been a very long time since Liverpool put up a decent fight for the title so anything is possible really.

The lower rated clubs just need to attract a handful of skilled players and win some trophies (FA Cup, Carling Cup etc) to bring some cash into the club so they can sign some big names and become contenders. Portsmouth and Tottenham have won them in recent years and 2 of the 'big' 4 havent made the Semi-Finals for over 2 years. United started out in the lower leagues remember and havent always been one of the best clubs in the world. They have been through a lot over the years to get where they are. Liverpool have won more trophies than us yet not challenged for the league title until this year in over 13 years properly. There were days when Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Blackburn were always up there fighting for title and look where they are now.

I agree, but it just gets boring watching the same four teams compete every year. I just wanted to know what happened to the rest of the teams. If you remember Hull at the beginning of the season, they were 6th and stayed in the top half. Now look at them. 3 points clear of relegation.

Newcastle have to win on the weekend. If they draw, they'll be in the same situation, if they lose.. I'll cry.

Thats because the lower league teams have no consistency and lack the mental strength and discipline of the top clubs. They also dont have the depth of the squads that the top teams have. It always helps when teams have great youth academies that they can train young, passion filled talented players through. Aston Villa should have sealed a champions league place for next season easily but they screwed it up and let Arsenal claim it. Arsenal a side that havent won a trophy for 4 years now and although they have great youth talent they too dont have the maturity or discipline anymore. A side that went 49 games unbeaten and won the league 2 years running got beaten by United in 10 mins in a Quarter Final shows how they have fallen. Liverpool also havent won the league since it was named the Premier league in the 90's. So when you think about it, it is an open title. United have won the league quite a lot and always in contention for it, Chelsea a team that won it twice in 50 years, Liverpool havent won it as the Premier League title and Arsenal havent won single trophy in 4 years. So really anyone could now step up and take their place like people did with Leeds, Blackburn and Nottingham Forest all those years ago. Now is the best time that could happen if statistics are anything to go by.

Yeah. I mean, Newcastle used to be a pretty damn good team. They use to quiet easily compete with the top 4 now and no one would ever know the outcome, now it's more like "Newcastle and Man U? I wonder who'll win (!)". 8 Managers since 2006 hasn't helped us.

I think Manchester United happen to be one of the best teams in the world, but I don't like them. I hate the cocky fans. I live in Swansea and the majority of people support Manchester United as well! What's the point? Swansea are a decent team, why support Man U?

I just hate to see loads of the old teams that were pretty amazing just drop down over time. It's not much fun to watch unless you support Manchester United or Liverpool anymore.

A lot of United fans are glory hunters and if United went like Arsenal and 4 years without a trophy i think lots of them would hop onto the Liverpool bandwagon. I admire the loyal fans of the lower league teams and so does Alex Ferguson, he expressed recently how much he admires the Liverpool and Newcastle fans. I personally wish we didnt have so many glory hunter supporters and more people who were loyal and cheered even though we were losing. Not all United fans are cocky, ive found the most cocky to be Liverpool fans who live in the past on how many trophies they have won. Then also Chelsea fans who gloat about money and how they can afford to sign any player in the world for stupid money (like Man City have started to do). Newcastles problem was signing players with no desire or love for their club and also signing past it and lazy players. You have a lot of complainers in your team (Joey Barton is a prime example) also some terrible defenders. You got two good players from us in Alan Smith and Nicky Butt however they arent match changing players and Micheal Owen is way past it to be considered one. You sold or let go most your best players and the others got to old, as you said though it didnt help with your manager situation. Alan shearer hasnt got the experience or managing knowledge and know how to get you out of relegation trouble and was crazy for taking on the job.

I agree, if Alan Shearer was going to take the job, a little experience would have helped.

And yes, Joey Barton is a f***ing dick head. Michael Owen is nothing compared to what he was. When he played for Liverpool, he was pretty outstanding.

Glory Hunters make me sick and I hate scousers :). I wasn't saying all Man U fans were cocky, I admire the ones who have actually been to Manchester or who have supported them because of Dads, Grandads and so on supporting them. I haven't got a problem with that. As you said, you've supported them since you were 5. Obviously, supporting a team at that age was probably influenced by relatives or something?

Yeah my uncle took me to my first game and it was at Old Trafford watching United so was the first game of football i watched. I admired the heart and desire the players showed and how much determination they put in. Their play style was fantastic and i vowed to support them from then on. Plus the atmosphere in the stadium was like nothing id ever seen. My uncle died quite a few years ago and im the only real United supporter in my family now as most my family hate them. My dad has been a Chelsea fan since he was a kid so can be quite the atmosphere at my house.

Re: Premier League Football..

This is a nice two man conversation, I shall make it a threesome. I personally don't like football, and I don't get why people would go to a game when its just as exciting on the TV. The only sports I like are Paintball, MLG and Baseball (Only live) And once in a rare while, when the European championship is on, Soccer.

And I don't get why people pay to see something they get on TV for free, and I don't get how someone can get so rich, just from playing a game. That would be like me playing jumprope and people buying tickets to see me do it, and I try to out jump my competition, and when I jump a few more times than he did I get $10,000.00

Its the atmosphere we go for, yeah you can watch it on TV but theres nothing like being in the crowd when your team win a huge title. European cup is the biggest club trophy a football team can ever win and until you have experienced that atmosphere you will never get the appeal but its unbelievable. The wages are insane agreed but football is also a great reason to go to the pub on a Sunday afternoon so i dont mind what they are paid as it gives me an excuse to get drunk watching them play.

The best players in the world have amazing skill and people pay to watch them perform (takes more skill than a jumprope).

^Lol, nice... I guess that's true. I just don't get it, call me stupid, but, yeah.

Its more a European thing but there are lots of people over here that dont get it either. There are some sports etc that people wont ever like but each to their own and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Nice to have a mature discussion with some members too +Rep to you both. ^_^

Re: Premier League Football..

The problem with the Premier League (and alot of other sporting leagues) is that it's run by money. The richest clubs buy the best players, win the most trophies, which gets them more money so they can buy the best players, etc. That is another reason why I love the AFL so much (apart from it being the greatest game invented). We have a draft system over here so that the teams that are on the bottom of the ladder at the end of the season get to have first choice at the national draft, and get to pick the good young players just entering into the game. That means that everyone is generally competetive (except Richmond :P), which makes it a great game.

Go the Gunners!
