PS3 2.0 live tomorrow

Sony have officially confirmed that its 2.0 update will be available from tomorrow. Here is some comments about the new features:

Sony said:
Version 2.00 features the ability to turn a PS3 system on and off remotely, using a PSP system via the Remote Play function, allowing for a truly mobile partnership between the two systems. Building on the success and potential of the Remote Play functionality, Version 2.00 will cement the partnership between PS3 and PSP and create a truly global experience. With the ability to turn your PS3 on and off from Wi-fi connection, there is now the opportunity to listen to the music, look at the photos and watch the videos saved on the PS3 Hard Disk Drive, anywhere in the world.

People still arent happy there is no DivX support but there is now a feature to create your own playlists.

Sony said:
Version 2.00 allows for the creation of personalised playlists in both the music and photo sections. his simple-to-use function gives users an opportunity to create unlimited music playlists for all occasions, as well as sharing favourite photos in glorious high definition.

Also people were hoping you could view the XMB (Cross Media Bar) in game but that hasnt happened either.

Sony said:
Continuing with the idea of a personalised PS3, Version 2.00 allows for customisation of the XMB menu screen. Change the colour and brightness with the greatest of ease or have something completely different by setting a custom theme.

Also an added information boards and Internet Security Parent Control.

Sony said:
A host of other enhancements includes the addition of an Information Board on XMB to keep people up to date on the latest PlayStation news, the inclusion of a new PSN category and logo for easier navigation and Trend Micro Web Security, a free, state of the art internet security system, designed to give parents peace of mind.

Re: PS3 2.0 live tomorrow

Heh, I'm really not surprised that there is no DivX support. And chances are there never will be... Sony & Microsoft aren't dumb, and know very well why DivX is so wanted (i.e. Pirated movies, and TV Shows are completely in .avi format). If Microsoft supported DivX, it would put their Video Marketplace completely out of business, and I imagine the same for Sony.

All I can say is... If you're really desperate for some .avi videos on your big HDTV, or TV.. just go out and get a DivX DVD Player, or DivX Connect... instead of hoping for the impossible.

Yeah i could understand them not including that feature, but people have been asking for the ability to view the XMB (Cross Media Bar) in game for a long time. Its a pretty standard option that should have been included at the start. Also some minor updates people wanted that have been overlooked too.

Well, as one person had stated in a Sony article somewhere.. Sony seem to only be in this for themselves.. When they made the PS3, they weren't thinking of the developers or the gamers, they were just thinking "how can we make the most powerful system on the market for us?". And it looks like they're continuing to show that by not listening to their consumers.

Granted, Microsoft doesn't listen to EVERY plea from the consumer (and for understandable reasons).. but at least they try, hell Microsoft has even publicly asked all consumers what they would want to have added to the Xbox 360.

I guess that's good news -- for Playstation 3 owners, anyway. At least it's something to look forward to for when I finally decide to shell out for a PS3 - probably around the time Metal Gear Solid 4 is released... ^_^
