PS3 updates to Blu-ray 1.1?

Rumours are being passed around the Internet that Sony could be releasing a firmware update for the PS3's Blu- Ray Player. Apparently once downloaded, will improve the interactive features of Blu-ray inside your PS3. They suggest it could be available from October 30th.

Perhaps those cool picture-in-picture playback features are to make their BD debuts on the console first.

Blah blah blah. Typical Sony to focus on upgrading/altering their existing doo-daads instead of focusing on the one thing that keeps the PS3 from hitting home; Getting some damned games for the console.

But on the other hand, it might increase sales as people mostly buy it as a Blu-Ray player, not a gaming console...

But on the other hand, it might increase sales as people mostly buy it for just Blue-Ray player, not a gaming console...

Yeah first thing that came into my mind was they are stretching it further and further into the realms of movies and taking focus away from games more and more. It will sell more as a Blu Ray player for sure if they upgrade its features but still leaves the gaming crowd hanging.

Will just add some new features to the Blu Ray player thats all, like the past DVD menu firmware updates with DVD players.

With the loss of Backwards Compatibility (for the new 40GB PS3), and the discontinuation of the 60GB PS3 in Europe, and with the 80GB PS3 never coming to Europe, Blu-Ray updates and focus shouldn't even be on their top 10 things to do list, if they want to dominate the next-gen Console era, for a third time.

As stated by many fans of the PS3, "just wait and see". But that's getting really old, you shouldn't have to wait for great games to come. Especially when you payed $500+.
