Sonys Playstation Network has now been down for 6 days and there is still no official word on what caused the downtime and no timeframe as to when it shall be fixed. The downtime couldnt have came at a much worse time with the release of Portal 2 and the Easter Bank Holiday in the UK leaving millions of gamers frustrated with the lack of information and answers.
Sony's latest update from communications chief Patrick Seybold has shed no light on the situation either and no estimated date as to when the service may be up and running again.
I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don't have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time. As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we're working to get them back online quickly. We'll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.
The Anti-Sony hacking group Anonymous has also denied responsibility for the PSN attack.
Whilst it could be the case that other Anons [Anonymous members] may have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident, and does not take responsibility for whatever has happened. A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous' previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact that the outage is actually an internal problem with the company's servers.
