Pub Games problem

Every time I win a tournament for the prize I only keep getting the gold. Can you only win the items once? or do you have to place first to win them? I placed fourth and second the first time and I still got them.

I haven't got pub games, but I think you have to link with a different character before you can get the top prizes again, for the reason you suggested.
