Question about the dog

Alright, I've been a browser here for a while, but never a poster. Anyways, I know each one of you know how the dog is the replacement for the map in Fable 2, but Molyneux has said that at one point the dog Will Die. So, what I'm asking you is how will you find your way around when the dog dies? Is it's soul going to live on? Is it going to have a puppy (if it's a female), or will you have to find your way around just based off instinct? I'm interested in what you all think.

Re: Question about the dog

Welcome EgoDogg,

I think it will be near the end and
Lucien will kill your dog
I'm not sure how many people rely on the map. I don't use it much but probably more than I realize. We won't be blind so we'll make it through.

Re: Question about the dog

I am confused the dog might be the new hud what will happen then?

Re: Question about the dog

As Molyneux has hinted at the dog dieing im sure they will include another way to see the map such as finding them around the areas or something really simple that we might overthink about.

Re: Question about the dog

(Gose to the corner and starts to cry) I guess the dog cant help timmy or his kids if there stuck in the well in a couple of years when the dog dies.

Thanks man. Anyways, even if it's near the end, which I also think it will be, if this is anything like the original Fable, you'll still be able to continue with the game after completing the main quest. I'm interested to see how they handle that.

Re: Question about the dog

Lets hope that you can bring him back after you kill Lucien. Or you'll have a choice to kill Lucien for revenge or let him live so that your dog can live again.

Re: Question about the dog

god if they dont have free roam ill cry

Re: Question about the dog

It is an interesting question - I for one am really going to struggle without a minimap...and I am intrigued as to how I am going to manage with just a dog to guide me

After the dog pops its furry clogs, I'm guessing you'll either be so accustomed to the area that you'll be ok or perhaps you will be provided with a map or something...I dunno...

Where did you hear that?

Re: Question about the dog

What I don't like is that everyone makes it sound like your character is a whining baby that can't do anything without that damn mutt. So sure, the dog might help you get around but I really doubt your character wont have any navigational skills of his own and all that.

Alot of games creates an item in your inventory that looks like a crudely drawn map that starts out with only a few areas, but as your character explores new areas those are scribbled onto the peice of paper aswell, creating a map of every region and place you've visited and how it is connected to other areas.

I seriously think they'll have to have something like that...

Re: Question about the dog

I'm guessing you're right about that.
In my opinion viewing a map all the time takes your focus away from the current position and therefore lowers the experience

Re: Question about the dog

Yeaah...it sorta does. But your Hero keeping a personal map like that in your inventory that you can view at your own choices (plops up, covers the screen and pauses the game. Like when you picked something up in Fable) and then when your put it back the game resumes.

I think it'd be both an realistic and effective solution.

Re: Question about the dog

Yea I hope the make that more in the game as well. Like my idea of seeing the hero pull the map out of his pocket and the camera changing the focus so that you can view it. I'm trying to think of how the other menu things could be similar. Maybe you see the hero stop and think then you see a thought cloud with the menu choices.

well you see, he'll probally kill the dog on the final battle like in fable 1 where Jack
killed your mother

and what if there is no after play. [[damn that would suck]]

or maybe if there is after play you'll just have to find your way around w/o the mutt

Im pretty sure there will be 'After Play' as Peter Molyneux isnt likely to want people to feel cheated by ending it outright.

Re: Question about the dog

The "after play" or "unlimited play" was pretty much a Fable and Fable TLC "trademark". I'd be dissapointed if they didn't have that in Fable II.
