Reassurance

So I have Anxiety, which has been escalated by my dad going to the Hospital for a bit and a few other things, and upon doing a SAT/ACT practice test, I have come to the conclusion that I still am extremely horrid with Math, while I am good with the other subjects, Math is my downfall, my Anxiety is extra-perked up now because of that, and I need to know, worst case scenario, if they fail me because of bad math, how bad on a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being life ruining, 1 being a paper cut) would worst case, me repeating the 10th grade be? I have never repeated a grade before.

Re: Reassurance

Would they really make you repeat an entire grade just for failing one subject? In my area (might just be the school district, might be the state, not really sure), you just have to repeat that one class the next year or take it in summer school, but you move on to other classes just like everyone else.

At least if you do badly on the math portion of the SAT you can take it as many times as you need.

It's hard to say how bad repeating an entire grade would be though. Do you mean in terms of how your parents will react? How colleges might view it when applying? The effects it will have on people within your current grade? Etc.

Re: Reassurance

Im not in US (obviously) but lowest grade i got in my GCSE's (high school tests) was in Maths. I didnt fail it but i needed a certain grade to be accepted into my college course. So instead i redid it at college at the same time as my other course and got the grade i needed. So getting a lower grade than you expect isnt the end of the world.

Re: Reassurance

Funny enough, my lowest grade is Maths (not including Welsh). I think Andy got it right, It's not the end of the world.

Re: Reassurance

Okay, so if I get a low Math grade, I can still pass then? Thank you, as I said a lot of stuff has been happening and if I can feel better about this then it just makes the next month or so easier.

Re: Reassurance

As far as I know you can still pass in most if not all American schools if you fail just one class (unless things have changed in the last 10 years). Math wasn't one of my stronger subjects, so I usually got low scores but scored high in the other subjects. I always passed to the next grade.

Few of my friends would fail more than one class and still managed to pass to the next grade (they'd normally get straight C's and at times a few D's & F's). But if they failed the class for the whole year, they'd redo it in summer school for a new grade.
