Red Dead Redemption First Review Lands

Rockstars highly anticipated upcoming title Red Dead Redemption has received its first review and its a good one... A 9.75/10 in Game Informer.

Game Informer has just given the Rockstar title 9.75/10.

To put that in some context, the magazine reportedly also awarded Super Mario Galaxy 2 9.25/10 in its new June issue. That'll be the same Super Mario Galaxy 2 which Edge gave a full 10/10, then. Yes, GI reckons RDR's that good.

The details come from a post over on NEOGaf, and will make very sweet reading for Rockstar.

The publisher has previously called Red Dead Redemption 'more ambitious' than GTA IV - which was hardly small fry.

SMG is a completely different genre and GI throws 9's around like it's nothing, especially for their front cover games. Interested in what IGN's opinion is of RDR, looks more enjoyable than GTA IV.

Another review score has been revealed, this time from UK magazine GamesTM.

CVG said:
The multiformat mag scored it 9/10 and reports that 'Rockstar San Diego's rendering of the American frontier is nothing short of absolute' and says that 'Redemption's is a gameworld as expansive and inviting as any we've explored'.

Both the graphics and narrative of the title come in for commendation - and sound better than anything we've seen in an open world game before.

'Shantytowns sit among vast expanses of wilderness, rural homesteads can be found in sweeping grasslands and red sandstone monuments protrude from rough expanses of desert,' GamesTM reports, 'all situated beneath a vast sky of intense neon blues, smouldering oranges, silver greys and any hue in between.'

In terms of gameplay, we're told: 'Redemption is a game unafraid to mete out its ideas slowly, meaning that you're still learning new tricks several hours into the game.'

And despite admitting that not every area of the title's massive gameworld rewards exploration, the mag concludes: 'While Rockstar San Diego may find some difficulty in filling its open expanses with interesting and emergent play, it does imbue it with a stark beauty and compelling narrative that makes Redemption more than just an allusion to cinema, but a piece of work that can confidently stand next to it.'

It's starting to sound like a must-buy, right?

Re: Red Dead Redemption First Review Lands

I don't particularly trust magazine reviews. As Gikoku mentioned, I get the feeling they are out to promote games rather than giving fair reviews. The "newspaper" media is a corrupted cesspool as far as I am concerned.
