Requirements to unlock Knothole Island's Huge Heat? Doing them early.

Hi,

I've looked all over the internets and there are some mentions of progressing through the story more to unlock the later quests, but nothing specific. I do know that Island Drowning doesn't show up until much later (IIRC after the Spire, perhaps), but on my 2nd character, I did the Knothole quest early, and wait for Huge Heat didn't to show up until I was on the Hero of Skill quest. (I deleted that character)

I'm playing my 3rd character now, and this time I went to do the Knothole Island quests as the very first thing after meeting with Theresa at the market. I finished Big Freeze then came back to town, but the Huge Heat mission isn't there.

So what exactly the requirement for Huge Heat to show up? If it's a bug then I don't want to waste time on this character...one of the negative things of the no-save gameplay. At least Lionhead should've included the option to turn off auto-save.

umm, i dont know exactly, but it is for sure not a bug...

why are you getting mad that it takes too long to be able to do a quest? just enjoy the game as you wait...

also, YOU can find out for yourself by doing every quest and seeing when the quest pops up...

still have no idea why you think that it is a bug. you have to wait for a certain amount of time/until you get there, thats all...

I wouldn't know if it's a bug, I did the Knothole quests on all my characters post luciens death. But I've noticed a bug that when I complete the big freeze I have to leave the Island before the other quest activates.

That's not a bug. U have to leave the island to get another quest from Knothole Island Xeon.

Actually, after trying about 50 search variations I finally got the answer: Huge Heat doesn't show up until you have accessed Westmarch, presumably after you talk to Mad Dog for the Crucible.

I am upset because I started this game fairly new and all of the know-it-all guides fail to mention *when* the individual Knothole quests become available. Most of the search results I've found have been about the DLC glitches, which isn't comforting given the lack of multisave. It is quite obvious that the majority of the veterans played the DLC with a finished character, so while I don't blame them for not noticing this detail in their answers and guides, it is still a pretty important information they missed out. It would not be a big deal if I could revert to an old save, but not for this particular game.

I've written faqs before and I usually think of as many scenarios as possible, from the neophyte to the power gamer. That's how beta testers think. And yeah, you bet I'm disappointed in the recent guides. For instance, what is the game mechanics for determining experience bonus in combat? Time + consecutive hits? I noticed that using time control actually decreases your bonus, and while time control slows down the left-hand clock in the Crucible, the "real time" isn't slowed down, so even though you think you've got a perfect round @ 1:30, it's actually 2:10 real time. Another thing about time control; it doesn't seem to count its damage booster as will power damage, so you don't get any exp, nor is time control capable of hurting the red ghosts in Snowglobe. I've seen very very tiny amounts of red exp from using time control, so I don't exactly know how this is calculated.

Sure, you can say that this game isn't like Armored Core so there's no need to research on it like a nut. But you know what is the biggest factor? No multiple saves and no turning off autosave. Fable leaves no room for technical experimentation.

For what it's worth, I admire that quality because it does emphasize choices and consequences. I've finished the game once and now I'm playing a different character choosing different paths than before. What is troublesome is that the quests pop up after key milestones in your menu without knowing you how you've gotten them. Usually a quest is given to you via NPC or reading, so having the side quests pop up, while convenient for the casual gamer, feels artificial and breaks any dramatic process.

For example, Cold Comfort Farmer vs. Red Harvest. Unless you read the faqs you wouldn't know the consequences until it's too late. There is no hint whatsoever that clicking on accept means killing a whole bunch of guards; no dialog options. If you help Giles, Arfur simply vanishes, which is anticlimactic given the history between you two. Or Defending the Light vs. Massacre, unless you read the faq you wouldn't know that you these quest disappear after the Spire, which is supposed to be a point of no return quests-wise, but what are those, exactly? I bet the majority of people on this board spend more time reading faqs than actually playing the game, which is the opposite of its intentions. There good and bad points in this game, and we need to talk about them not as fans but as players. And you would help a lot by pointing out the flaws in people's faqs as well, which only makes them better.
