Oh, God, Yes. The wait is over! Its been a long wait but finally Resident Evil 6 has been announced. Check out the trailer Here:

It has been ten years since the incident at Raccoon City and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place. Raccoon City survivor and personal friend of the President, Leon S. Kennedy, arrives to find the President transformed beyond recognition by a bioterrorist attack. Leon is forced to make the hardest decision he has ever made.

I am disappoint.

All I saw was Gears of War 4: Zombies (seriously, that guy sliding into cover and blindfiring before getting grabbed by a tentacle? What's up with that?) with a lot of "Press X to not die"-scenarios.

Less action, more horror. That's how you do a Resident Evil game. Not like this, man... not like this.... Why is every genre degenerating like this? Action horror, action RPG...?

I think it looks AMAZING I can't wait, I'm ganna buy it new and at midnight, and play it til I die.

Im not specifically talking about this trailer but it seems that some games have forgotten how to create horror and atmosphere. They seem to think throwing bigger and more ugly enemies or increasing the number of enemies and ramping up the action sequences will make games more scary and up the tension. When in fact it usually does the opposite as they give you more abilities and bigger weapons to deal with them. People need to start going back to basics and remembering that atmosphere, pacing and building tension slowly are far better ways of scaring people.

I still remember coming across that first zombie in the original Resident Evil and I dont even play the games really. Also remember the tension building parts of F.E.A.R and the original Alien Vs Predator on PC and it was the build up and quiet parts that filled you with dread and playing tricks with lighting, air vents and pipes made you jump far more than coming across a room full of enemies and fighting off wave after wave.

Last game I played that managed to pull off that scary atmosphere was Alan Wake. Call me a chicken, but that game gave me the creeps when playing it at night with no lights on.

Alan Wake is effing creepy with all the Stephen Kingesque moments and Lovecraftian themes.

I really need to finish that game.

A good sign that a great atmosphere and pacing always beats high octane action filled moments in games for scares. Anticipating something is going to happen is much worse than when something actually happens.

Makes me think about the Hitchcock quote about the bomb under the table.
