u maybe already have done this but there is one of those books buried in the ground under the bowerstone market bridge, where the slums are and where u meet to pay off the Blackmail! quest. just get your dog to look around for u and it shud show up in no time. Hope this helps!
EDIT: as for the dye just try looking around for clothing salespeople in fairfax gardens or in rookridge (that's where i found mine for the box of secrets)
