Rockstars Manhunt 2 Appeal Successful

Seems Rockstar will finally get the go ahead to release Manhunt 2 in the UK after having their appeal accepted.

Shacknews said:
Rockstar's appeal of the British Board of Film Classification's ban of Manhunt 2 (PS2, Wii, PSP) has been approved by the Video Appeals Committee, passing on a vote of four-to-three.

With Rockstar's appeal successful, the VAC can force the BBFC to rate the game, which would allow it to be released in the UK. The BBFC had twice rejected rating the title due to "its focus on varied and cumulative killings."

The original version of the game was denied a North American release by platform manufacturers following its Adults Only rating by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. A modified version was later assigned a Mature rating and released on October 30, with the rating upheld after hackers found a technically-demanding way to uncensor certain portions of the PSP version.

"We played Manhunt 2 for well over 30 hours prior to our decision," said BBFC director David Cooke. "The BBFC exercises great vigilance and care in ensuring that all violent games which are submitted to us are correctly classified. Our decisions are based on published guidelines, which are the result of very wide public consultation."

"The BBFC will carefully study the judgement by the Video Appeals Committee when it becomes available," stated Cooke.

Nice now someone just has to put out a hack to re-enable the content  If they want the most impact they should wait until it has been on the market for a while so the follow up ban won't make a difference

Individual freedom=individual choice. When will the idiots in charge learn? This shouldn't have been an issue to start with.

I agree 100% with you there, only people who have been saying it should have been banned everywhere are old people and parents. Moaning that children will play it and copy it... well stop buying it for them. :getlost:

Or just do some damn parenting. We have to face it, kids are gonna get their hands on it even if the parents don't buy it for them. But then the parents have to do something else, as shockingly as it sounds, teach their kid a lesson! So much better than just banning it for everyone else.

Yeah the 18 rating isnt just there for show... they wouldnt let their kids go into a shop and buy top shelf porn (as much as the kid might want it). Or they wouldnt be allowed to rent out an 18 movie so why the difference because its a game?

Nether one of these has stopped kids from getting R rated videos depicting far worse than what the game has. If you think about it Video games are much more regulated than movies or books. However in the early days of TV the restrictions were pretty high. Granted that was the fifties but still.

I see video game regulation mellowing out as this generation moves into governing positions. I wonder how many of the people, who are making these judgments, are or were gamers. Mostly the ban is a reflection of the "games are for children" mentality. With the Wii supposedly bringing gaming to the masses maybe this will bring about a shift in perception... or it could set it back ten years

Not saying that it would, but you shouldn't ban stuff. If you don't want your kid to play it, be a parent and at least try to make it happen. Video games shouldn't be banned.
