Router Problems

The connection has split in 2..? And it keeps going on and off randomly, like it has since the day I got it. But I really don't know why the connection has split into 2 separate connections, I haven't done anything to it and my family are all too technophobic to have done anything.

Side note, my brother named the connection.

Re: Router Problems

Hm, would you happen to know the router's address? If you don't, click start, run, then type cmd and press enter. a window command prompt will appear.
In the window, type ipconfig /all and press enter
look for the line that starts with "default gateway" and write down the address.

Usally the adress will be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1.

Then to configure your router you go to your internet adress bar and type http:// then the numbers you had. then just press enter again. Usally the layout of the page will vary on the manufacturer but if you browse through it you should be able to find the settings.

If it asks for a pass word and username, your username will be admin and the password is password.

Browse through that and see if there is some thing you need to chage. If the 2 xbox's being read cause no problem, delete one of them within the network box. If something goes wrong for some reason, restore it.

Re: Router Problems

Thanks dude, +Rep. It turns out that my brother made the new one by accident, so apparently he is that stupid.

Also, the internet problem still needs to be resolved but it is my internet provider, Virgin Media.

Re: Router Problems

Okay, well if you have any problems with your xbox live connection, go back to the router page, and look for UPnP (i think that stands for universal plug and play). Find "Turn UPnP On" and turn it on if it isnt already. If it already is, just click apply and refresh, edit the settings on the xbox, go to mw2 and it should say open.

That is, if your experienceing this problem.

When I click apply, and the page refreshes, the UPnP turns itself back off.

Re: Router Problems

Idk why... but that happened to me before. Go to the xbox dashboard, go to My xbox, then select network settings, then click Test Xbox live connection. If you get a yellow triangle sign with an ! on it, tell me. If you dont get the triangle, then your fine. your connection is working fine.

Re: Router Problems

The first thing to try is power cycling your router. This basically means turn it off for a couple of minutes Smiley Disconnect the power cable from the back of the router, wait a couple minutes and plug it back in. The router should automatically reboot and reconnect, and its entirely possible that your problem is fixed, as easy as that. Just like restarting a frozen computer.
