Runtime Error

I keep getting this error when the game progresses to the point where I shoot the moving targets.

I checked the Microsoft help and have updated all my drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Runtime Error

Could you give us computer specs? RAM/processor/vid card?/etc

Have you tried reinstalling?

Have you used any mods which would affect the game?

Have you done the tribal witch dance around the boiling cauldron naked while screaming that the video killed the radio star?

Yeah that would help but in the meantime....

1. If you have windows blinds - Disable it.

2. If you have an audigy chipset/soundcard install new drivers.

3. If you have a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card and a 24bit PCI soundblaster card try -

- Right clicking on Fable shortcut and select properties.
- Click on Compatibility tab
- Check the disable visual themes box

4. Make sure your video card is supported - Fable: The Lost Chapters

5. Made sure your Directx is up to date to?

Re: Runtime Error

I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 ~2.6GHz on an ASUS A8V Motherboard,
1GB DDR RAM, 128MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS, DirectX9.0c

I have already tried Dark Drakan's third suggestion to no avail.

Tried maybe disabling your sound card and trying to use the onboard one on your motherboard (if you have one) or finding sound card drivers?

Re: Runtime Error

Sound card drivers are up to date. Tried disabling the sound card and still got the same results. I'm running a SATA Hard Drive. Don't think that should matter since the game loads and plays fine up to this point.

Try:

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer

See if it says whats causing the crash...

Re: Runtime Error

The event viewer is not logging anything in regards to fable or the error that is being generated.

Has it EVER worked or is this a first install?

Try uninstalling everything of Fable and a reinstall.

Re: Runtime Error

The game has never worked past this point. I contacted Microsoft Help and they've given me the same advice and basically told me it should work. I've re-installed twice and continue to receive the same error.

Is it only when you go to shoot the bow?
Because once I tried to put a Ranged type weapon in the game. I went to shoot it, and the sound of the bow shooting made me get that error. O.o

Re: Runtime Error

I can shoot the bow. I got past the point where you have to shoot the three stationary targets. Then there's the cut scene where the guildmater explains the next challenge with the moving targets. At the end of the cut scene where it should begin the second phase of the training i receive the error.

I take it you have tried a 'complete' Un-install and removed 'every' Fable file and then re-installed?

That might actually be it, you know. I get that error when I mess around a bit too much with the game files, making them turn up missing or corrupt. So the "file" dealing with the cutscene or the next event might have been damaged, corrupt or simply missing.

Wouldn't that sorta explain why it works fine up to that exact point?

Yeah thats what i was thinking, maybe a corrupt file is causing it and a 'complete' removal and re-install might remedy the issue.

Re: Runtime Error

aside from the standard uninstall removing the file folders and deleting the saved game file, what else is there i might be missing?

Re: Runtime Error

I can't find any other files related only to Fable after uninstalling. Does anyone know of a way to view what the is happening when the error occurs, like viewing the command lines or something?

Re: Runtime Error

Yes I know this is a long dead thread but I'm having this problem now too. I went and read an 8 page thread from another forum that was very old and tried multiple fixes, reinstalling, renaming the video file, updating drivers, etc, and I'm having this runtime error at the exact same spot, after I've shot the 3 initial arrows and the Guildmaster is talking about shooting moving targets.

I've done the tutorial at least 15 times now and its starting to get tiring -_-

Re: Runtime Error

I'm am having a similar problem I can't get past the loading screen right after you clik which save you want to load. I have tried a Complete UN-Install and it isn't working
