Scars
Judging by the general tone of conversation i've got the impression that people don't like the idea of scars as a penalty for death. I actually like getting scars as it reminds me of epic battles (except when you die against, say, a hob.) Admittedly they could have implemented it better, for instance i would have liked it if you acquired scars not just by dying but by being struck by a high class of enemy when on low health. It could have used a cinematic slow-mo camera like when you use a flourish attack. For instance a semi-boss creature with a spiked tail whips it's tail at you after giving you a beating and the spiked tip scrapes across your face in slow motion giving you a scar. You can't say you wouldn't remember that when you looked at your character
