PM has plans for future Fables, and with Theresa in 2 and 3 and confirming Scythe still being around, and this new enemy in 3, I'm hoping he has plans for the storyline aswell, and since we probably won't have any of our questions answered for a few years, here is my theory-

Long ago the kingdom of Archon ruled every corner of Albion. The World was peaceful and in perfect order, though many wondered if the force that held it altogether was not corrupt. For Archon had in his possession a sword of vast and mysterious power, and Albions elders wrote of gradual changes overcoming their leader. These changes spread to the kingdom itself. Strange structures were erected round the world, and huge armoured figures were seen guarding four hubs of energy and Archon's Castle itself. Every living thing was touched by the Swords influence, and soon foul creatures the world had never seen before darkened the peoples lives. And yet no record exists of what caused the fall of the Kingdom. So suddenly, so irrevocably. Archon and the Sword disappeared, but the darkness remained.
-The Old Kingdom (Book)
I think the shades/'the children' in Fable 2/3 are linked to the Void and could easily be the creatures who 'darkened the peoples lives' (the Crawler often states his children will 'drain the light from your soul' etc). Furthermore these 'huge armoured figures' - sentinels, minions (F3) ? The Old Kingdom spanned most of the world so assumed Aurora aswell, maybe Aurora's ancient civilization is ruins of the Old Kingdom?
As with 'the darkness remained' that could explain how the Crawler 'has been waiting centuries'

The book is presumably about the first Archon- Scythe and how the Sword of Aeons corrupted him. Scythe/William's immortality I think came from his time fighting the Court, his soul joined to the existence of the Sword of Aeons;
Back in Albion, the sword spoke to William. It called itself the Sword of Aeons, and it promised to help him defeat the Court — but only if William offered his soul in bondage.
-Tales of Albion
So if Scythe is still alive, the Sword must be aswell? Meaning Theresa was killed and sent into the Void instead of the Sword of Aeons in Fable 1, also in 2 it says the Hero slayed Jack again in dragon form with the Sword of Aeons. Explaining Theresa's mysterious immortality, gained from making a deal with the Void maybe? As isn't unusual, as William did and it's supposed Reaver did (with the Shadow Court).

Maybe I am taking it all out of context, but this theory is supported by a few bits of overlooked Fable history, books in 1 etc. Like this:
The nine seas surround Albion, but to the North is the Wasteland. Some say there's nothing, and others that it is Jack of Blade's true home. The old Scribes say that it was once a mighty empire before the glaciers came. Libraries of arcane knowledge still exist beneath the ice, and those who once lived there sleep deeply beneath the cold blanket, ready to reawaken when the time comes and Albion is ruled again by one man.
-The Northern Wastes (Book)

Maybe Scythe is the leader of the Void? :P or a Shadow Judge, Theresa being the one infront in 2 that shared the same model ? Not to mention the Shadow Court is the same area in which you first meet Theresa in Oakvale in the original Fable. I think the Crawler is some ancient creature from Aurora that awoke the creatures that 'sleep deeply beneath' Aurora and probably heeded the Shadow Court's will to invade Albion and destroy it one more time:
They coveted Albion and demanded that all men bow down before them.
When the people refused, the Court burned Albion until the earth turned black and the sky was thick with smoke. Then the Court demanded obedience again, only to be refused a second time. This time the Court lifted the sea into the sky and flooded the world.
-Tales of Albion
Shadow Court is a 'shadow' of the former Court of Blades?

It all kinda fits but maybe I'm reading way too far into this

I like the theories. An interesting read. Although I wouldn't think PM thinks as deeply about this stuff; more along the lines of OOOOOOOO lets add a dog!

Thanks, and yeah precisely my worry Lionhead seem to just sculpt a story around the game's features >_<

Naw, Lionhead don't plan things.
