Several Revelations about Fable series

So I picked up on a few things whilst reading my books for AP LIT,

Theresa gets her name from the blind Seer Teresias who is from Homer's Odyssey and from Sophocles' Oedipus Rex

Also Albion means England which I think explains alot of things (not that fable's albion is actually england but surely based off of it)

Also here is one more thing that I think most people may have picked up on if they are well versed in classic literature

The gravekeeper in bowerstone cemetary is named Victor after Victor Frankenstein from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Also they crypt that is there is called the Shelley Crypt, after Mary Shelley.

I just thought I'd share these with you fellow albionites.

Sure the voices are an obvious hint that the world is based off of england but, I was reading King Lear by shakespear, and they say Albion several times (at first I was all like lol...) and in the index it says "Albion : England"

ALBION is ancient Greek for England (refering to the brittish ilses)

Re: Several Revelations about Fable series

interesting info, i didnt notice those, except for the england bit

Re: Several Revelations about Fable series

just cuz their vioces are done by brits doesnt mean its England. Garth doesnt talk like that cuz in the worlds that Alboin is in Black people come from islands and countries across the oceon. In tlc it explains how thunder got to be in Alboin.

Actually it does. When the majority of people are speaking with a British accent it is pretty safe to assume that you are indeed in England.

The voices don't mean that, and I didn't say that is was england but I did say that

ALBION LITERALLY MEANS ENGLAND! IN REAL LIFE NOT IN THE GAME, REPEAT ALBION MEANS ENGLAND!:D

Re: Several Revelations about Fable series

Goodness Dag, we aren't blind, and some of us knew that.:D

Oh lol, thanks for the information - I've always been wondering about that. I've even tried to search the definitions o' it, and I couldn't find it. Once again, thanks! :D

Re: Several Revelations about Fable series

I guess this isn't a serious topic anymore, or is it?
Well, let's cut the irrelevant, sarcastic statements, and discuss about the main subject instead.

That's wierd cuz then everyday when i go to lunch i must be in England and when i watch a japanese movie in English it must be in America, no its not. Just because all the voices are played by people with british accents doesnt mean it's England.

Back on topic I only knew the Alboin meaning England thing i thought it was clever when i found it out, i also b4 knowing that had lewked on a bunch o maps and stuff and found alotta places in my country named alboin

It's really hard to get from Samarkand to Albion. Doesn't mean they're racist, just means that they are accurate.

So? Albion MEANS England. In this context though, it is NOT England, as England does not exist. Albion does though.

Not if you're in the fictional world of Albion, where England doesn't exist, but people still have British accents (which are Albion accents because Britain does not exist)

He and Whisper were on a boat that got destroyed by a kraken and they washed up in Albion.

To sum it up...

Who ****ing cares what Albion means?!?!?

Re: Several Revelations about Fable series

Samarkand sound alot like Zanarkand to me!!!

some things about Samarkand:

Samarkand was founded by the Persians in the late 6th century BCE and it was one of the main centers of Persian civilization in the ancient times. The city is most noted for its central position on the Silk Road between China and the West, and for being an Islamic centre for scholarly study. At times Samarkand has been one of the greatest cities of Central Asia. Founded circa 700 BC it was already the capital of the Sogdian satrapy under the Achaemenid dynasty of Persia when Alexander the Great conquered it in 329 BC.

Samarkand can appear as an archetype of romantic exoticism. (Reaver mention something along those lines)

Samarkand is the name of a planet in the 2001 novel Gridlinked by Neal Asher. The protagonist travels there to investigate after its teleporter explodes with enough force to destroy most of the colony. (this might be something relevant to Garth and the Cullis Gates)

Samarkand has been cited as an inspiration for the fictional city of Zanarkand from Squaresoft's Final Fantasy Xhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samarkand#cite_note-10 (I told you so)

In the Video Game series Fable and Fable 2 made by Peter Molyneux of Lionhead, Samarkand is a place outside Albion (The land in which the games take place). It seems to be similar to the Middle East and Africa in that it is described as a desert land, from where the Negro population of Albion originated. Literature from both games describes Samarkand in greater detail. (well, obviously!!!)

all of this was on wikipedia
