After reading some signatures on another thread (a daily hobby of mine... sad but I find them funny). I saw the FREE SEX signature, an Ezio Auditore Signature, and several others that caught my attention. I forget the users.

But I found one containing a quotation from what seemed a song:

When the Devil wants to dance with you
You better say "Never"
Cause a dance with the Devil might last you forever.
Turns out it is Dance With the Devil by Immortal Technique. This is Rap as I have never heard it before. It has a story behind it, a meaning, actual and true feelings inside of it. At first, I hesitated to call it rap, for I did not hear anything about booty, or shaking an ass, or making money aye! No, I heard some deep lyrics, I heard something inside of that song making want to vibe. In other words, this song was ****ing great.
Why have I been hearing this Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, Black Eyed Peas and whatnot all my life, when the radio could be playing better rap such as Immortal Technique! What have I been missing! What are some good rappers and good rap songs unlike the mainstream crap?
Cause I doubt any old rock bands will come out with newer songs. I love rock.

There lies your fault, being 'mainstream' doesn't mean anything. 30 years from now anything mainstream, won't be
mainstream anymore, does that mean that will be the time you will actually listen to something 'mainstream'?

What if something wasnt mainstream, and then next day, BAM they get discovered, and are everywhere.
Does that mean you will stop listening to them?

I don't like rap, or hip hop, though I do admit I do make some exceptions. But I felt
I had to say this.

Listen to what you want to listen too, regardless of its popularity.

You have to dig deeper if you want the good crap.

I have been a metal man, I though Slipknot and Mudvayne and Metallica were the ****, then I dug deeper, now I have found bands beyond my wildest dreams.

I do not understand. Are you asking me if I hate MainStream? And that if an artist I like goes MainStream, will I hate them?

No, of course not. I am a reasonable person, it would be utter nonsense to even think of doing such a thing.

What I meant was that most MainStream stuff I just do not like. For example, if Lil' Wayne, who seems MainStream, was NEVER MainStreamed and created the EXACT songs he has now, I still would not like him. If the Black Eyed Peas were underground this whole time, I STILL would not like them. I just hate the majority of MainStream, not generally saying I hate ANYTHING that is MainStream.

I never got into the whole SlipKnot, Mudvayne and Metallica group. I prefer a more slower-paced sound... such as Nirvana. Because I say 'slower-paced' doesn't mean a SLOW song, it means I want something hard-hitting, but not as hard as SlipKnot. But don't get me wrong, all those are great bands... I just don't listen to them.

I saw the FREE SEX signature,
HobbeBrain
an Ezio Auditore Signature
Probably Daemon300. If that Ezio has a Christmas hat, I'm sure; since I personally drew it on him.

Buuuuuut, yeah I get it. I don't like most mainstream stuff either. I have absolutely nothing with rap, and little with other stuff. It just so happens to be that melodic death metal isn't famous all over the world, so -using Firis' wording- I have to dig deeper to find the better crap. And indeed, I'm amazed by what the shining minerals that I discovered, beneath the dust of mainstream.

I love Hip Hop.

Immortal Technique is alright. He does a lot of political rap.

Listen to a lot of Nas old stuff.

There's also KRS One, Wu Tang Clan, Rage Against the Machine (a lot of people will say this isn't hip hop, but it is: Zack De La Roca, who's the lead Singer was a b boy, an MC, and was known to do political graffiti, that's three of the original four elements of hip hop, so if people want to say other wise, they could shove it).

There's also Flobots, Lupe Fiasco, Eyedea, Eminem (sure, he has a lot of goofy songs, but listen to his serious ones. They're amazing), there's also Rakim... gah. I could go on, but at least listen to Nas old stuff and KRS One.

Too much profanity and sexualisation in that sort of music for my tastes - the only hip hop/rap group I can just about stomach is 29th Chapter.

Thank man. And I already listened to Rage Against the Machine once before. Hip-hop? Well, I could see why, but I think I classify them as Rap-Rock. Rap Rock covers several artists - POD, RATM, Hollywood Undead. Morello's amazing guitar just sends a great vibe through my body. Makes me wanna bob my head back and forth.

Anyway Calm Like a Bomb is a good song I think. Their wa sa song... Ride Wit Us I think it was. By Nas I think, not bad.

Come live in/near Sweden and you'll have Melodic Death to last a lifetime.

I listened to the song you're refering to, Amon showed it to me in fact. The last few lyrics (you'll know what I mean if you've heard it, I don't want to spoil it for anyone) are genuinley haunting. This is one of the only raps I actually like.

definitely hip hop. just because they use a distorted guitar doesn't make them a metal or rock band. it's rap over a funk-inspired instrumental. that's more hip-hop than most other hip-hop bands.

There's also Flobots
i liked them at first...handlebars had its moment of glory. but i bought the album and it went dry after about a week. is their later stuff any better or are they just not for me?

Flobots might not be right for you. I'm not too into em myself. I know their earlier stuff was pretty good. I hated handlebars.

As for Rage, Jay Z's the blue print 3 , used all live instruments, rather than beats. That doesn't make him a jazz Singer or funk. It's hip hop.

By the way, Cheez, you should listen to Tame One. He's a graffiti artist who also raps. He's pretty good. He's also Redman's cousin.

Here's a quick video of his:

you know, this could be an enormous coincidence... in that first video i noticed a "skrew" at 0:18...he's a phillie artist. he's everywhere, i used to see his stuff the whole train ride through the city. same style of spraying and everything.
i'm pretty surprised there was a skrew but no prozak or sire. maybe they just met eachother.

the music isn't bad, it feels a little drawn out but it's pretty good.
