I decided to post this because nearly 1/3 of the earth's population seem to believe that Satanists worship Satan or 'The Devil', and that they use humans in sacrificial rituals.

I noticed yeah, Just this talks about actually worshipping Satan, yet defining him something other than 'The whore of Babylon' or 'The Devil'.

Yeah its a common misconception and one that ive had to try and explain to people a lot. Im not part of anything as i dont follow any kind of practice or religion but ive been close to people who are and i dont like it when they are misinterpreted or misunderstood.

I'm not really into the whole worshiping of a non-visible being, or any other religious practices. Well, at least until I reached a certain age, but I do respect the decisions of those who do participate in those things. :noexpression: Just as long as they don't try and shove their religion down other people's throats...

When it comes to Satanism, I think the camp will be divided eternally between those who follow the LaVey way of things and those who actually do the whole devil-worship stuff but have been calling themselves Satanists for far longer. Don't know jack all about the LaVey side of things but the other ones can kiss my Jesus loving *** :lol:

Quick question - I did some looking around regarding the LaVey stuff a while back and noticed that his daughter and ex wife or similar wrote a book debunking certain myths about LaVey (such as various claims to fame which were apparently made up) but also mentioned he was a violent and cruel man to both animals and family. Is this correct or just a load of nonsense?

Exactly. Unfortunately, the latter are the ones who gets the most media and hollywood attention.....

He was.... a bit excentric, to say the least. Lived an extravagant life with lots of sexy parties and stuff and he did make himself a very public figure, so there is no surprise there are a lot of rumours about him.

For example that he was supposed to play the devil in the awesome movie Rosemary's Baby. He never claimed it, even debunked it a lot of times, but considering his position of the founder of The Church of Satan, it's sorta stuck nontheless.

I know, it's so infuriating - People just allow the media to shove total crap into their brains these days, and then they just believe it.

Here is a good example:


In Finland the choice was criticised by some and a group of religious leaders went as far as calling President Halonen to veto their entry. In Greece, a number of organisations were trying to stop Lordi from competing. The Greek restaurant and bar owners' union President, Mrs. Niki Constantinou made a public plea directed to the people of Finland and Greece not to allow Lordi to perform in the contest, claiming the group is Satanic. Three other organisations in Greece initiated legal action against Lordi.

It's the guy's opinions (as he is clear to state, which is fair enough) that in one breath say "I don't have a problem with Christianity" and then goes on say stuff like "the church don't want you to think for yourself", "they're all about the money" and "herd mentality". To be fair to the guy though, he makes some good point about Catholicism, especially in terms of the unnecessary middle-man concept, but a lot of his views on the church and Christianity seem to be based not on viewpoint of research and objectivity but based on what he's perhaps seen on the news about some American evangelist ripping people off or whatever.

Just find it a little odd how he says he is all for religious freedom and no one should be disrespectful of another's beliefs and then slams the church, the catholics and some Christians in order to elevate his own beliefs. I think it is impossible for his religion to present itself without mentioning the opposing view of Christianity - which is a shame because it then is unable to profess one set of beliefs without scorning the other.

Still, tis his opinion, his religion and each to their own^_^

True, he did seem to oppose christianity abit but then, alot of it is true. [No Offence]

All I did was make a simple observation. But if you are looking for an opinion then it depends on who you are. Personally I feel Satanism is irrelevant in our day and age, and is something destined for the history books rather than the mainstream.
