"It has been a wild ride and an incredibly enriching experience. I have enjoyed immensely my tenure at SCEA and think the company and its brands are very well positioned to have an exceptional holiday and a very bright future. I look forward to continuing to follow this industry as a gamer, rather than a spokesperson." - Dave Karraker

Spong News said:
Dave Karraker, Sony Computer Entertainment America's (SCEA) head of PR - and the man who famously accepted an Emmy award for a PlayStation controller thinking it was for the Sixaxis saying, "I accepted the award myself and all they said was that the award was for 'technological innovation for device controller' ... but looking back, they never really did say for which one", has resigned.
He leaves Sony after a tumultuous year which saw PS3 launched in the onslaught that was Nintendo's Wii. The news does not come with the accompanying notice regarding six months hand-over time, Dave leaves Sony this Friday to join Vodka makers Skyy Spirits on October 1st. This isn't the kind of massive change that you might expect, as he came to SCEA from a stint at Allied Domeq Wines and Spirits.
With a 366 days at the helm of SCEA's PR clipper, Karraker had the following to say in a broadcast email, “It has been a wild ride and an incredibly enriching experience. I have enjoyed immensely my tenure at SCEA and think the company and its brands are very well positioned to have an exceptional holiday and a very bright future. I look forward to continuing to follow this industry as a gamer, rather than a spokesperson.”
Meanwhile he's off to sell the much less controversial product - booze.
