Sony announce PlayStation Network has major security vulnerability for PS3

Details are still thin on the ground but all we know is that Sony have announced that there is a major security vulnerability with the PlayStation Network. Most of the security issues are with the Japanese PlayStation Network.

This problem could allow attackers to access your account and get hold of your personal information. However these attackers can not get hold of your credit card information, they can also change your password. So will you stop using your Sony PS3 until they sort this issue out?

That is a silly question at the end. Not using your PS3 would do little to stop the hackers, since it a vulnerability in their network not necessarily the PS3 itself.

In fact it's probably good to check out if you have been comprimised. If you can't get into your account I would contact Sony immediately.

Stopping to use your PS3 will most likely protect your password. The accounts you use for playing online is probably encrypted like sh!t by Sony, and the only way to get hold of a un-cryptated password is from the input on client-side, I.E when you connect to the network.

I read a book about how people steal passwords through "listening" to what the client does... trying to hack the database with the accounts is almost impossible, and not very rewarding since the info is useless without the decryption key :)
