Sony Say No Price Cut Or 80Gb PS3 For Europe

Sony have recently announced at E3 that Europe and Australia wont be getting a price cut or the 80GB model PS3. Instead they have offered them a 'Starter Pack' which contains a 60GB PS3, two controllers, and two games Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm. The 'Starter Pack' will be released on July 18th. I think thats a poor offering to us for us not to be getting the bigger model PS3 OR the price cut.

This sucks!!
Just as i have decided to buy the PS3 when the pricecut came but no! The gods dont want me to have another console... Why?! Why cant i have more than 5 consoles?

But really, now i cant afford the PS3... damn!

The price differences are crazy:

US: Price Cut To $499

Canada: Price Cut To $549

UK: Current Price £425 (599 euros or approx $850)

Australia: Current Price A$999

Heres another update on the matter, and first the 20Gb was dropped and now it seems that the 60Gb will be too.

They offer a price cut and then they drop the cheaper model altogether, giving people no choice but to have to purchase the most expensive model... :hmm:

Makes me laugh how they said:

"Do they want to be selling [Xbox 360] for 10 years and refurbishing them all for 10 more years?"

When have Microsoft ever said the 360 was a 10 year product? Only Sony said the PS3 was a ten year product, they put words in Microsofts mouth that they didnt even say. I think its crazy for them to be giving the PS3 a ten year lifespan. Average console is out of date in 5 years and at the rate technology is moving in 10 years Microsoft could bring out another console with all new tech.

Also:

"With the Xbox 360 you've got an inconsistent design, some have a hard drive, some don't, and none of them have Blu-ray, and the HD DVD will be out of business in a matter of months. Is this a 10 year product?"

What they fail to realise is that the Xbox 360's HD DVD player is an add-on and they could just as easily make a Blu Ray player add-on for the 360.... Also it was Sony that had 3 different models of PS3 and 2 of them are being dropped in US... So whos got the inconsistent design there?

They have a good product thats well made and has heaps of potential but their PR and Media campaigns are putting people off buying them and bad mouthing other companies like some fanboy child isnt going to make them look any better.

When they start getting the PS3 to show of its power and some good games are on way etc (2-3 years) it will take off but going to be a shaky time for them until then.

Indeed, but most people will probably buy another console before that...
I dont say people can't buy 2 consoles, only that Sony can't hope that they do. No company can survive by hoping people still will buy their products, and i think that most people wont buy a PS3 if they already got a 360 for example.

Thats correct and not likely to change with Sony losing almost all their 3rd party exclusive titles.

Yeah, this is just crazy. What are they thinking, for God's sake?

Also, have you seen what they've done with some of the MMO's out there? Star Wars Galaxies Super-Nerf anyone? Vanguard apparently? What the hell are they thinking? I don't understand them anymore.
