Sony Sign Up To Data Sharing Deal

Sony have recently struck a deal with Nielsen to a data-sharing agreement aimed at "attracting advertising revenue and bring life back to PlayStation 3 sales". The new feature will collect data from your console as they want to know whos watching what, whos playing what, and who's seeing what. All data will be sent straight to Sony for them to analyse and work out "behaviour patterns, the effectiveness of advertisements in games, and some basic demographic information such as the user's age."

I personally think this is a really bad move as people hate this kind of privacy invasion and people dont even like seeing ads in their games and have boycotted buying products just for that. We have all heard about the incident involving Battlefield 2142 and it just collecting data on what specs your computer had and people not buying it as it invaded their privacy.

Re: Sony Sign Up To Data Sharing Deal

Of course, it's Sony who's pulling this crap. But since I don't have a PS3, all's good over here.

Really, I think Sony's desperate. I mean, spying on us! Who are they, Google? Not only are they breaking the rules of consoles themselves, (people want to be away from the world when they play video games, they don't want people spying on them) but all the people who spent 600 dollars on this console will be watched! I mean hell, if we want to be spied on why don't we just put up all our information of ourselves on Myspace, not be watched as we play on the PS3. :sly:

Sony's pulling the "Big brother's watching you" crap. I mean sure, I was expecting a:"Introducing the new PS3! It comes with a portable toaster, an easy bake oven, and a couch!". But not this bull crap.:getlost:

Now, another reason why I don't really want to get a PS3. Now Microsoft can say, "Hey guys, my console is not spying on you" as a marketing strategy. :hmm:

Oh yea, and the whole advertisement crap. Yea, I don't want to hold off an Alien Invasion with a "Viagra" sign in the background. Nor do I want to play as the Burger King in DOA!

Just my opinion, but seriously guys.

personally, I think its funny. when the sales for PS3's begin to go down instead of up, they've got nobody to blame except themselves.

Re: Sony Sign Up To Data Sharing Deal

Soooooo...Revenue will go up and more people will buy a PS3...Because their personal information...Is being sent elsewhere...What...The...Heck kind of logic is that? And if all goes well, we'll have more advertisements? Did I just step into crazy land?

They basically took 2 of the most complained about features of the new gaming era and thought introducing them into the PS3 would boost sales somehow... O.o
