Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

Taku Murata, general manager of Square-Enix's research and development division, announced at today's GDC session that the company has dropped the White Engine name for its cross-platform game engine. Squenix is now pitching it as Crystal Tools, showing off a fancy new logo that extends the Final Fantasy brand even further. While the internal, companywide development platform was originally understood to be built for PlayStation 3 development (specifically, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy versus XIII), it has being designed with multiple platforms, including the Xbox 360 and PC, in mind. Murata also confirmed that a version is being readied for the Wii, which is still very early, but we don't expect it to kick out visuals on par with the PS3.

They haven't announced it yet, but it seems a waste to create a game engine for a system and not use it.

Won't it be cool if they remade Final Fantasy 7 for the 360

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

I doubt they would remake 7, but it would be nice. I would like to see 6 too :D

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

7 was probibly the first turnbased jap R.p.g I played, an then the graphics blew me away. The ones before I *cough* roms *cough* looked into, it would be pretty cool with next gen technology

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

Chances are at some point we will see Final Fantasy on the 360 in some shape or form. RPG's are always well received on the platform and Lost Odyssey is selling well on it and will be out here next week. That wont have gone unnoticed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and he knows he could double sales with a Final Fantasy game releasing on 2 consoles. +rep

Wikipedia info for the white -engine

The White Engine is a seventh generation game engine built to be used with "all of the Square Enix's forthcoming next-generation games" on the PlayStation 3, as commented by Final Fantasy Versus XIII character designer Tetsuya Nomura. The first games to utilize it will be Final Fantasy XIII and its spinoff title Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Nomura commented that the switch from the PlayStation 2 to the PlayStation 3 was difficult, saying that "the hurdles are greater than they were in the move from the PS1 to the PS2." This in turn gave way to the creation of the White Engine.
One of the main aspects of the engine is that it allows photorealistic CGI to be rendered in real-time. Nomura has commented that the White Engine will be able "to recreate battle scenes reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children." It also handles advanced audio processing, cinematic cut-scene transition, physics effects calculations and special effects rendering.[citation needed] The White Engine reportedly uses 4 of the 6 synergistic processing elements (SPEs) that are available to games running on the Cell processor, to achieve near-pre-rendered CGI quality in realtime.

At GDC Austin, Hiromichi Tanaka revealed that Square-Enix "went through a development reorganization, with the development of [their] cross-platform middleware – the white engine."

Now if they can release a Chrono Trigger game with this engine on 360, i'll be :w00t: and sony will be like:hmm::sick:x_x

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

A Final Fantasy game possibly making its way onto the Xbox 360? Sounds like a dream come true! Hell, I would even settle for a remake if Squaresoft couldn't be bothered. To be honest, I've been waiting forever for Squaresoft to announce that they're working on a Final Fantasy VII remake so if they were to say that that would be arriving on the Xbox 360 at some point then it would make my day. ^_^

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

Seeing that they definitly work on Wii, now I reckon they are looking at numbers and thinking , what about this 360 western thingie , that is If you only own one console.

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

You could get Crisis Core, Steve, it's based on the events leading up to FFVII.
Though you may have known that already

They always said they would love to work on a remake but doubted that they ever would. They dont want to ruin the FFVII name and know they would never please everyone with a remake and so have steered clear.

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

Yes, If they gonna use the Final Fantasy 7 name it, would probably be for a spin off or something like that. I think FF7 has allot of fans that have fond memories of it (or is it nostalgia). The new games aren't bad, though I haven't played them all, but it's interesting how they would adapt it now that there is a mass effect/fable/oblivion crowd outthere. Maybe it was Cloud's big sword:P

Final Fantasy will always be separate to the Mass Effect, Fable and Oblivions of the world because its a typical JRPG style. Linear and turn based and thats the classic style that will always stick with the series, shame they are so linear of course and no dialog choice as they could easily adapt that into the games. The classic turn based combat of old should stay though and they shouldnt try to change it (FFXII style) as it ruins the feel. I would like them to mix certain things up a little though to add more replay value.

Lost Odyssey is a great alternate on 360 and exclusive too.

Re: Squaresoft could be developing for the Xb360

There are a few point I want to make on this topic:

It would be nice to see a fresh game on the 360 rather than spin-offs or ports, like Final Fantasy XI. Lost Odysee had that Final Fantasy aftertaste, but it was only so slight. When you think about it though, it gives an idea of what a Final Fantasy game might be like.

Secondly, I actually liked the system in XII. I found it more engaging and the License system was a great way to style each character. Of course I hated the grind factor. I like to spend hours killing things, but not as much as XII made me do.

In a sense Lost Odyssey WAS the fresh game, it only had a Final Fantasy aftertaste because it stuck with the old skool combat style made famous by the series. I am much preferring Lost Odyssey to Final Fantasy XII right now i must say.
