Valve is offering a new gaming console in the hopes of combining high end performance with affordability. The components are the SteamBox, Steam OS and a controller. This console will be the most open console ever created. The box can be modified and upgraded. It will plug into your Pc or TV. This is NOT meant to be a replacement to Pc rigs just an alternative. Some criticize the console as to what point it serves. This would be nice for people who want to get into Pc gaming but don't know how to build a rig. Also, you could move from the livingroom to the comp at will with your Pc games collection. Another bonus is that it will never got outdated as it is upgradable. You could build your own rig that would basically be the exact same console if you wanted too.

The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:
GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
CPU: some boxes with Intel : i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB DDR5 (GPU)
Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high

Could be the best thing to ever happen to console gaming, could destroy console gaming, could be a flop I can only speculate. My greatest hope is that it is successful and forces Microsoft and Sony to become more customer friendly and build a more open console.

Any Pc fans thoughts on this? Does anyone know the price of a Steam game that is not on sale? 30% of profit from games goes to distribution costs alone, so they should be much cheaper, or game developers are making a killing that much money can't be going directly to Valve I assume. I feel like they are trying to do to gaming what Apple did to the music industry as in become the center of the that universe.

Honestly, if this thing can only play TF2 it's not worth it. They have to convince others to make an even wider library of games for Linux. So for the first few months it's just going to be either a brick, or your average gaming rig with windows on it.
