Steampunks Official Review.
Warning Possible Spoilers, Spoilers, I warned you.
First off let me say, IM a Pirate and I have a golden eyepatch, cant touch this, nanner nanner booboo.
PLayability
I will start with the pros, Fable 2 was very impressive overall. There were endless references to the first game which drove me crazy, I loved it and kinda felt as if they just used old ideas (Just honest). I love the look of the game, very crystalline and light saturated, it made the game easy on my eyes and didnt wear me out to stare at my tv for 7 hours at a time (Yeeah I know, I have little social life) I love the combat system, I found stringing together my mele with gun shots and will very easy, impressive and effective, although I couldnt figure out how to effectivley battle roll or reverse attacks. But, the one time I reversed an attack was awesome, I ran the guy straight through from behind. The customization of my armor was very fun, I keep trying different color combos to find what I like best and I can occupy myself for half an hour or so on that alone. The amount of quests was and is staggering. For someone with a life who cant afford to sit in front of his tv for hours a day It would take a month at least to beat this game. I loved the overall design of the game. Another plus amidst the trove of unnamed positives was and is the fact that Im still not finished! I have Legendary weapons to collect and gargoyles to find and places to earn.
Bugs
Now the oh so obvious and epic cons. There were so many bugs in this game, I cant count how many times I got stuck, how many coop games I got lost in and the couple times I had to start over were at Paramount points in the storyline and It mad me very angry, I litterally almost thought about fantasising of putting a hole in my wall. But, Im sure the upcoming patches (Please Jesus) will put an end to this epic bug fail. But as gamers we all hype every game up too much, we expect more than we could ever receive. Fixes will happen its week one we all need to ease up on this game.
Accessories
ANother dissapointment was the clothing options, about a quarter of the way through the game I had found every attainable article of clothing, which lacked of tophats, plate and any real armor to speak of, the strength makes up for no armor you say, well I hated all the lost exp from lack of protection. Armor is awesome and there was none in the game, who cares about its function. I found one combination of clothing I really liked and I half expected to not be able to choose what I wanted to wear. But I thought, How much can you really design based off the era? There also was no tie in to the first game other than theresa and a couple of other references, I wanted avos tear, I wanted a legendary suit of armor at least, I wanted suprises. I ordered the LE and got it without the content, which sucks for me and the impression, I really cant see how they are going to remedy this issue but I forgive you guys.
(*Sigh*) Co-op
Co-op was clumsy to be honest I wanted to show off my character and my friends to show off theirs I wanted to feel as if it was a heros quest not a hero quest and his henchman. Its boring being the hired gun, Its boring looking like a ken doll, its boring being just as good as the dude your with, It sucks not being able to tank your friend through an area he/she just cant conquer. It was impossible to personalise with the preset characters, I just lost interest quickly. The positive side is I love being able to see an orb and say "Hey dog whats up?" "Whats your alignment?" I absolutley LOVE THE SPHERES. But again I think about joining someones game and I get depressed and dont want to coop because its so weak and fail-ish. The camera angles were confusing, why? I want my own screen, thats why, its online co'op and not couch co'op. I cant stand not feeling free, yet another linear experiment that should be updated.
The Ending
Spoiler;I didnt like the ending. It was creative and understanding yes, Lucien actually turned out to be a weak stupid punk, thats cool. But whats the point of playing the game and stacking up my EXP, and strengthening my abilities if there isnt even an epic battle to use them in? I loved the choices at the end, I like that it really made you choose, your morality actually holds importance and isnt just for aesthetic purposes. But I hate that I made the best choice and I still have reprecussions from it, Its hypocrytical to the second choice, the second choice says you mght be making a moral decsion but its still corrupt to forget all the other sacrifices, why then after acknowledging and saving the others do I lose something that important not only to my character and the attachment but also to the gameplay? Its just not the right decision if it hurts the Paragon of right wrong reward and consequence doesnt it?
Conclusion and Misc.
But as Fable should be, its primarily a solo game, its for the purpose of being an awesome game and not an awesome multiplayer although Im sure LH wants it to go that direction. I thought " I want this to be an MMO so bad!"and it would be amazing to have an ever expanding story line and environment, because lets face it how long will it take us to dry it up? We are gamer, we play, we are hardcore we always will want more of fable, its cool. Im looking forward to the DLC, its not on the main menu for nothing. I cant wait for patches and DLC and extra goodies. There are a few things I want Lionhead to remember, I loved this game, I think its the best game Ive played in a while, I rarely find a game I have an utter urge to continue playing and I enjoyed every second with acception to the few lost seconds due to the unavoidable real time play testing the first week, I get it, deadlines, compromise, corporations and continuing to work on your beautiful baby. Secondly, Whatever you can improve and add in updates and DLC and please do, Im asking clothes, weapons, areas quests, eggs, Sandgeese, dragons (PLEASE DRAGON DLC I already have a story for it) Dont hold out on us. SO I could write another few pages but all in all, I give Fable 2 a 9.0145 out of 10. But after some updates will deffinatley be a 10.
