Still A Chance For Halo Movie

Peter Jackson's representative Ken Kamins has recently said the following in a press statement.

Ken Kamins said:
Following a swift withdrawal by film studios Fox and Universal, Microsoft is already in talks with other distribution projects to continue development of the Halo film. Prep work on the Halo film continues, mostly thanks to the involvement of exec producers Jackson and Walsh. Most of the pre-production is being done at their visual effects studios in New Zealand, Weta Digital and Weta Workshop, so there will be no stalling.

Then he shed a little light on the pull out of Fox and Universal.

Ken Kamins said:
Disputes came after Fox and Universal tried to lower Microsoft's profit margines.

What happened was this: Universal, on behalf of both studios, asked for a meeting with the filmmakers just prior to the due date of a significant payment. Basically, they said that in order to move forward with the film, the filmmakers had to significantly reduce their deals. They waited until the last minute to have this conversation. Peter and Fran, after speaking with their producing partners and with Microsoft and Bungie, respectfully declined.

Then he ended with afew comments about director Neill Blomkamp.

Ken Kamins said:
Everybody is supremely confident in Neal, part of what excited Peter and Fran was Neill's vision. We're very confident this film will move forward with the creative partners intact, who will take the film to production.

Peter Jackson is involved?

...

Then I hope it doesn't turn out as long winded or as boring like King Kong and LOTR are. The only movie of his I ever really enjoyed was 'Meet The Feebles'.

I thought the LOTR movies were well done although missed alot of parts from the books so im told (but we didnt want the movies to be any longer ). Hes not the director though he is one of the executive producers.

Yeah, I like Jackson, even with the Lord of the Rings movies. It was about as good as it could be in movie form. And yeah, they did drop lots of parts-- and thank god. If they hadn't it would have either ended up as six long movies or as three insanely long ones. Not that I wouldn't enjoy watching that, but even the most nerdy among us have their limits.

And I do still hope to see the Halo movie, and this does sound like a good sign.

Yeah i would agree to be honest, to cram so much story into 3 movies i think he did a damn good job. Also he did an excellent job of bringing some of the book characters to the big screen. Hes also stated hes a Halo fan so will be overlooking the whole project closely. If its done right it could make an excellent movie, ive never been confident of games going to big screen but if this was done properly id be excited.

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

I tried so hard to watch the first one more than once but 1/2 hour at most into it I would fall asleep and not wake up until the end somewhere. The only other movie that bores me that much is The Exorcist.

Maybe if they cut all the bits with Frodo out, the movie would be worth watching. Yes I realise that his part was pretty much the whole point of the story, but I just couldn't STAND the guy who played him. I wanted to smack that bewildered doe eyed expression right off his little hobbit face. With a hatchet. Or have an orc eat him. Something horrible happen to him at the very least. I seen wrestlers with more animation than he had!

One thing I will give it was it had some of the best battle scenes I've seen in ages. That and I love Karl Urban. Maybe if it was just on big three hour long battle I would have enjoyed it more...

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

This would be a hard movie to pull off but I would like to see it done

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

Yeah, Halo could be varying degrees of tough depending on what they do. The 1st game, one of the books, something else entirely... it all depends.

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

It would be a film I'd want to see if it did come into fruition but I don't necessarily trust someone who says they're a fan...they had Spiderman fans working on Spiderman 3 and they didn't get the story right either, so...

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

Peter Jackson redeemed himself in my eyes when I saw one of his older movies, "Braindead". Awesome stuff.

Spidey movies. [shudder] Excellent point. I'm not even a fan and I get the point. Or at least not much of a fan, noting my inability to read comic books/graphic novels without wanting to smack someone. Preferably myself or whoever laid them out.

The person running the movie's status as a fan or non-fan is meaningless if they're incompetent, stupid, or have horrbile taste otherwise. Fortunately, I'm reasonably sure none of these apply to prodcuer-boy Jackson.

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

I would definately go to it but it will probably be either Really Good or Really Bad...

Re: Still A Chance For Halo Movie

I was about to make a positive comment, then after reading the general opinion in this topic on LOTR decided instead to go stick my head in the ground somewhere.

At any rate, I have faith in him. All I will say.
