The Breadcrumb Effect

I think it's such a great idea they dumped the mini map. I never liked them in any game except GTA where u really need it. It makes the game too easy, less exploration and will definitely make the game longer etc.

Sorry I don't have the link but i remember reading in 1 of the Previews as of late that PM said u can turn the Breadcrumb effect off in the options menu. This is most likely what i will be doing, making my game play more explorable without knowing what to do at any given minute. I'm going to search and look at everything in this game.

plus if i remember back at GDC 08, PM said that your dog is used as a mini map, using it to find points of interest, growling at enemies etc.

It seems to me that breadcrumb effect will be for the average gamer, (really broad audience) whilst no breadcrumb effect will be for the hardcore gamer in my opinion

Lionhead is really improving, nice feature for Fable 2 indeed. :D

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

I agree, I like how the breadcrumb trail turned out, and that you are able to turn it on and off. Grand Theft Auto 4 didn't even need a map. Hopefully Lionhead's choice influences other games as well.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

Yeah, its gonna be a nice feature. I just hope they make it optional, like turning it on and off, and hopefully if you get turned around it doesnt get annoying.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

It's waay better than a mini map. There have been plenty of times through various games where I've been using the mini map to find something, and my dot and the objectives dots have been overlapping and I still can't find it. But yeah I'll probably be turning it off aswell. Makes it better, not knowing what you're doing :D

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

I like the idea that there is no mimi map and I hope they dont add a teleportation device because i was reading an interview with PM and he said
they wasted more than 10.000 on the sceenery of the game and no one would walk town to town they would rather use the teleporter and at the time I felt sorry for Lion Head because no one would stop what they were doing and say they did a great job on the sceenery

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

PM did say u could turn it off and on in the options menu I'm positive about it, I cant remember when he said it though. But it was just recently from the last batch of video interviews and or previews.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

I would like to see a compass like the one in Oblivion, it didn't show you where you are, but it showed points of interest (when you get close to them).
I think that would work very well in Fable 2, if it really is an open world game.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

I'm guessing Fable 2's world isn't as big as Oblivions so a compass is something we probably don't need and we have our little fury friend to show us points of interest that are nearby.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

Hmm a compass like the one in oblivion without the points of interest would be cool.
I'd prefer to discover things than to be pointed straight to them. But if you turn the breadcrumb trail was off which i think a fair few people will do, a compass would be handy for pointing you in the general direction of your objective. Like in the Quest description it could say South South-West of Bowerstone or whatever is relevant to your quest.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

I agree, too. I love the breadcrumb trail, since I'm alas an average player. But not only that, I think it's precious for the little girl/boy, to follow it. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.:) plus rep for u

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

Can someone post a pic of the bread crumb effect? I dont fully understand it.

If you go to the Fable 2 art section, there's a little boy in the woods, that shows the trail in front of him. Don't know how to post links.

Re: The Breadcrumb Effect

Based on how it looks, I'll turn it off. It looks horrible :S
