The "Did you know?" thread.

Alright, this thread is just for showing off any unnecessary information, yet perhaps interesting and bizarre, information you might have.

For example;

Rhinoceros beetles are also the strongest animals on the planet, proportionally. They can lift up to 850 times their own weight. To put this into perspective, if a human of average height and weight had the strength of the rhinoceros beetle, it would be able to lift a 65 ton object, for example, an Abrams Tank.

Take that, ants!

Re: The "Did you know?" thread.

Arguably the most famous single word in the history of cinema, "Rosebud" (uttered by Orson Welles in Citizen Kane) apparently began life as a dirty joke.

According to Welles biographer David Thomson, "Rosebud" was actually William Randolph Hearst's pet name... for Marion Davies's clitoris

:lol:

Too far?

Did you know Eighty-eight is

  • Approximately the number of days it takes Mercury to complete its orbit.
  • The upcoming Olympics in Beijing is due to open on 8/8/08 at 8 p.m.
  • The atomic number of radium
  • The number of keys on a piano (36 black and 52 white)
  • The ISBN Group Identifier for books published in Italy and Switzerland
  • In miles per hour, the speed the DeLorean automobile must attain in order to travel in time, in the Back to the Future trilogy
  • In the TV series Black Books (Series 2, Episode 2: "Fever"), the temperature (presumably in fahrenheit) above which Manny's case of Dave's Syndrome will trigger. This is suspected to be a parody of the use of the number 88 in the Back to the Future trilogy (See preceding point)
  • The number of Athena's saints (knights) in Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac)
  • Used to say "kisses and hugs" among morse code and amateur radio users, as it resembles an image of two lips kissing.
