The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

Hey guys. Well, as we all know, Fable 2 will have a main quest. But, you can do other things as well. This viewpoint is very skeptical. For example, in most FPS games...you really don't explore alot, just focus on the main mission. But for a game like Fable 2, third person (of course), just doing a main quest for me is very boring.

I came up with this issue because of a previous thread, where a user was talking about a "Pirate" feature, how you could go out to the sea and raid ships..etc etc. Well we all know of Elder Scrolls:IV as a game of doing alot of stuff, without doing the main quest.

Fable 1 had other quests thant he main one, but they didn't really make you get out of the main quest. When I said doing the main quest is boring, I meant this:

In Elder Scrolls:Oblivion, alot of what your going to do (during themain quest) is go through oblivion gates and fight Daedra. But when you are doing that, you could just finish up the gate and do another quest. But also, the quests other than the main storyline in Oblivion were just as fun. In Fable 1, the side quests really weren't as enjoyable, and it made me just do the main quest in the end.

Then again, I felt you could do so much in oblivion, you could forget about the main quest. It's like, "oh...the siege engine is coming! But it's alright, you can still do that mages guild quest"

Of course, the main quest will always be better in a sense of adventure and action. Though, i've always wanted Fable 2 to have real adventure, rather than just a main quest.

Butalso, I hope Fable 2 will be like,"Oh well you can do other things than the main quest but, we want you to know there's still a main quest you need to do"

Dene Carter said in an interview:
"So the idea is that the core quest is pretty much completable by everybody, there’s going to be a whole bunch of different rewards and various bits and pieces that will open up depending on how skilful you are, so there’s lots of rewards to stretch it further, but also there’s going to be huge sections of the game there that will stall things for a while and tell the player, “Okay, go away and have some fun. Do some stuff. We don’t care what that is. Just do some stuff.” If you’re not particularly keen on combat, go and do something with the economy. If you don’t care about the economy stuff that’s great, if you’d rather be doing the fighting stuff and going somewhere else and doing something purely heroic, go and do that! They will both allow you to progress to the end, but we’re trying to make sure there are at least these kind of time-out periods where people are told, “You don’t have to race through any more. It’s fine. Things aren’t happening.”"

So hopefully, the quests in Fable 2 will keep you awake just like the main quest.

So what are your opinions of questing in Fable 2? Would you rather just do the main quest, or do other quests as well?

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

I don't know why anyone would just want to do the main quest and nothing else, as it was the side quests and other elements of the game that made Fable, Fable... O.o

I don't however think that Fable needs to be played out exactly like Oblivion... no matter how many times I hear it I will never believe it... and if that's not what you were saying then I don't really understand the point of comparing them...

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

I was preety much saying this:There should be side quests, and yes you can do other things than the main quest, but the side quests will be as enjoyable. But, the main quest will still seem important enough to catch up on.

Because, in Oblivion I could reach level 40, do all these quests, but still not do the main quest. It's like no one was really reminding me:"Hey, Cyrodill is screwed, you better do something about it!"

Both Oblivion and Fable 2 seem to have alot of adventure. that's why I compared them  And, both seem to have good storylines and quests.

but the excessive side quests are what made Oblivion, Oblivion...
Fable doesn't need to be just like Oblivion... it needs to be just like Fable...
Fable already had side quests... and they didn't sit there reminding you constantly about the main quest either...
you couldn't reach level 40 while you were at it... cause Fable doesn't have levels...
Fable also had other side elements besides quests, like marriages and such, that Oblivion didn't...
the games are both distinct and seperate...
Obviously there will be side quests... they have already said there will be and it wouldn't be Fable without them... I guess I just don't get what you're asking...

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

Well, I was just talking about the quest system, wasn't I..comparing the two :ninja: I was overall just saying if people preferred doing the main quest only, or doing side quests also.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

oh ok...
I just got confused... I just wasn't sure if you meant what you said the first time about whether people liked to do the side quests, or in the second one where you said there should be side quests... so I just wasn't sure which one you were asking

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

I like this idea, but maybe other quests that you do, and not just the main quests, shape the storyline and helps develop your character more and the people around you. I don't want just the main quest to shape your story so why not let the side quests do the job.

Hopefully the side quests and, of course, the main quest will be more exciting and enjoyable, but to me I still enjoyed doing the side quests as well as the main quests and didn't find them that boring.

Well, in my view, I was hooked more int he main quest. I'm a bit like a see-saw in this topic, main quest is always important...but I just hope the side quests are just as good. Eh, that's my opinion. Just, eh.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

I agree that the quest system as far as sidequests should be a bit more like Oblivion. I mean, I walk up to a table pick up a card, do the quest, lather rinse repeat. But in Oblivion, you go explore and figure out what to do next for the quests.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

I think there should be quest that dont play out fully on the aspect of you being a hero or maybe just like normal things...heck taking your kid to school good be a side quest...not the most action packed but would add replay value

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

That's a good idea Jester +rep

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

thanks I thoughted it be cool and maybe your kid would have different friends/enemies since he supposedly follows in your footsteeps...mine would be pretty evil then

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

Hero's Son: Gimme all your ****in money!
Other Kid: *Sobs* please don't hurt me, I don't have any money!
Hero's Son: Yeah? Well then I guess I'll have to beat it out of you! *draws back to punch other kid*
Hero: Now, son, remember what I told you?
Hero's Son: *sighs* yes.
Hero: What was it?
Hero's Son: Try not to bruise your knuckles *lowers fist and kicks Other Kid in mouth instead*
Hero: Attaboy.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

Lol, +Rep Hodge, for making me chuckle.^_^

Anyway, they should just put quests in where you have to find something that is actually HARD to find.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

yeah like heck a school bully if your evil or the richest kids stash of gold hes been holding out on your song.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

If I was evil I wouldn't let my son come with me on adventures tho. He'd either shoot me in the head so that he becomes famous, or torture my dog while I'm taking a pee.

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

I wouldnt let my son come reguardless unless were raiding a trader or something less dangerous...hey i wonder if there will be a child limit....cause i could just breed to the max and have a lil evil army

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

Yea, you see a bunch of Hobbes and u have about 200 evil 8 year olds with you. "Charge!" Then half of 'em get killed and you have an excuse to go home and bang your wife :P

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

exactly it is the master plan

Re: The Main Quest, And The Side Quests

That is indeed, THE plan.
