The Size of Fable II?

I am sure this has been heard before. Since this is my first time here, I apologize for any ignorance in this post. Anyway, I am a big fan of Fable, one of my favorite games. But what I was disappointed about in the game was the size, and how little it really offered compared to other games, I beat the game at least 5 times on what I would usually beat in another game in that time span.

Lately I have been playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and I am in awe of the shear size of the game, playing 10 hours I realize I am not even 5% within beating the game. Back to the point, I understand that the Fable series and the Elder Scrolls series have totally different concepts in gaming, but I am curious of a few things, and I doubt anyone on here truly knows the answer 'till the game is released.

My questions are:
- How long will Fable II be? (Hours)
- Will it be in sandbox form like other games? (Ala: GTA/TES)
- Will there be as many side quests as say The Elder Scrolls games. (Doubtful)
- Size of the world, in Oblivion it took me 20 minutes to get to one town to another(Without fighting any enemies), I'm just a bit curious how large the game world might be.

I understand I won't get a answer, since I doubt anyone but the developers can answer these questions, but I would like the views of other fans of the Fable series.

Thanks!
Onexero

Re: The Size of Fable II?

on the size of albion, I believe that Monyleux said that Fable 2's world will be about ten times the size of the first game's world.
also,
Welcome to the forum, I'm new here too

Re: The Size of Fable II?

This is also one of my concerns, but if Albion is x10 bigger without fast warps this game could definitely be expansive.

Re: The Size of Fable II?

I'm bettin that there'll be plenty of side quests to keep u astray from the main story, the first had some, but not alot. And i hope it'll be more of a sandbox instead of sections like the last. that is takin nuthin away from the original.

One aspect I truly disliked about the game. I wish it was a sandbox game, it would've been much more fun certainly...

Yea, same here i got tired of the same narrow pathways filled with the same creatures every time i came by, but you gotta admit, it was a great game.
And i hope it's at least 2 to 3 times longer tham the first.

"Molyneux said that, without truly exploring Fable 2's sandbox world, the average gamer could reach the end credits at around the 12-hour mark. If you plan on becoming Emperor, finish every last side-quest and complete the game a second time (be it as a hero or villain), it will naturally take much, much longer." :)

There will be many many more than the original Fable, but probably not as much as Oblivion, but, if every house/store/whatever you buy has a side quest or something, then who knows?:)

This has already been answered so I'll just say: It took you that long to move from one town to anotherO.o You did know about the fast travel right?

Hope that helped:)

Re: The Size of Fable II?

+rep to everyone who answered Onexero's questions so far. Personally, I do agree that Fable: The Lost Chapters was a tad short -- and the original Fable even more so -- but only for an RPG. I wouldn't expect many other games to last as long as Fable: TLC does - Gears of War, for instance, is a great game but is over in no time. Where as Oblivion, another fantastic RPG took me roughly 100+ hours to complete, and I still don't have 100% completion even yet! Mass Effect, wow, I've managed to clock up around 60 hours so far and I have no idea just how many side quests I have left to do.

But yeah, I guess what I'm trying to say is that while Fable: The Lost Chapters may be somewhat short compared to other RPGs, it still takes a fair amount of time to complete, and that's just if you're breezing through the main story mode and ignoring the optional side quests.

Fable 2, however, I bet it takes a million, billion, squillion hours to complete... slight exaggeration but... well, it might do! ^_^

Re: The Size of Fable II?

Like steve said fable really isnt very much when you compare it to other RPGs and what many people do compare it to oblivion but they fail to take into account that oblivion is a next-gen game and the age diference is almost 3 years which is long enough to create a whole new RPG game. :)

Re: The Size of Fable II?

I also hope its a long game, without randoms same enemy fights to let the game "seem" longer. As for Oblivion, totally different game style, but It really felt like you explored. One thing that can be a problem tough is the size of the x-box 360 disks compared to size of the X-box disks(I think they are the same, I could be wrong. I also wonder if it will make use of the harddisk. I hope this game comes to the pc hey what da know size does matter.

Also welcome newcomers

I agree, XXXREAPERXXX, Oblivion really did do a fantastic job of making you feel as if you were actually a part of this massive world with incredible depth. However, I was disappointed slightly when I found that the only real area -- or rather, underground dungeon -- was the one that Umbra was hiding in. Aside from that encounter with Umbra I didn't feel as though there was actually any point to searching the local caves, mines and the like. Oblivion is a fantastic game, and the actual side quests that are available are incredible. It's just a shame that there was hardly anything to uncover throughout all of Tam'riel (sp?), in my opinion.

Don't go thinking I'm bashing Oblivion, though, it's an insanely awesome, superb, fantastic game that's up there as being one of my all time favourite RPGs ever. I just thought it was a little shallow in the exploration department. Where as I didn't feel that way with the original Fable. I love that I only managed to stumble across the Darkwood Bordello because I happened to wander off the right track. There was a number of times when I happened across a certain area because I wasn't paying attention to the main story quest. ^_^

I reckon Fable 2 is going to be huge and absolutely dwarf what we've seen in the original Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters. I have no idea if it will rival the kind of level scope that can be seen in Oblivion but I don't doubt that Lionhead Studios has some awesome tricks up their sleeve.

In fact, if anyone else has played Virtua Hydlide for the Sega Saturn, you'll know just how huge a game can be and just how insane exploration can be. Virtua Hydlide might chug along at a pitiful -13145 frames per second and be a million years old but, hell, I've never seen a game that offers so much potential for exploration. Kinda makes me want to dig out my old Sega Saturn from my garage now and take it for a spin...

Edit: Wow. Sorry for the Wall o' text, folks! Didn't mean to write out my life story! :ninja:

I like to enjoy the game as much as possible. I only fast traveled maybe 2 times, and that was only to recharge my Crusader Sword. I hate fast travel, it doesn't feel very natural, I like to literally go town to town the original way. Not to mention it ups your stats pretty quick. =P

I would love to see the Fable and Elder Scrolls team team up to create one massive game. Things I haven't seen in Elder Scrolls games I found my pleasure in Fable, and things I would like to see in Fable is on games like Oblivion. I doubt that would happen but one can dream of a world where almost "anything" can happen.

What I disliked about Oblivion was such a huge world had such limited weapons. I already have the Crusader Armor and Sword (Via Knights of the Nine quests) took me 3 days, and I haven't even started the main story line. Not too many weapons can rival with the Crusader Sword, as it rivals the strongest sword at that level you obtain. A world with thousands upon thousands of weapons may look unlikely now but the future might be much more exciting when it comes to fantasy games.

The first time I played Oblivion, I came straight out of playing Morrowind, so needless to say, I didn't know about fast travel. Then, I was browsing over the map one day when lo and behold, I click on an icon and I get the option to fast travel. I kicked myself>.<

Re: The Size of Fable II?

lmfao haha, i learned about fast travel through youtube. Watching vids of oblivion before I actually bought the game.

Re: The Size of Fable II?

i thought you meant size in Gb's :P

Re: The Size of Fable II?

Now that I've noticed in Fable was basically a walk in the park with all the paths.
I can't think of any where to go without being leaded the way.

And the game was so good I didn't realise it to now.

So Fable 2, imagine it! It will be so great i won't be able to put it down!

Re: The Size of Fable II?

i agree it was quite easy it took me about 8- 10 hrs to complete

Re: The Size of Fable II?

well on tlc i have booked at least 100 hour by playing it over and over being good bad and so on so fable 2 must be awsome to the extream if it is going to be at least 10x larger and paked with more gooy side quest goodness

Re: The Size of Fable II?

maybe it takes mor time to get around in fable 2 because if you havent got time your gonna want to explore the are.
