This is Starbuck calling all Raptors!
The Battlestar Galactica MMO is on the way.
March 9, 2010 - With the release of Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic due out next year, and the announcement that, despite the developer filing for bankruptcy, development on Stargate Worlds would continue, there was only one more huge sci-fi franchises yet to hit the MMO market; Battlestar Galactica.
Well, no longer, as Bigpoint, a European browser-based MMO publisher, has announced that they will be publishing Battlestar Galactica MMO Online with "tactical space combat, exploration and mission-based gameplay". Running off the Unity engine, Battlestar Galactica Online will probably be playable both on your desktop PC and your smartphone, and will require no installation or download.
Players will be able to take the side of humanity or as cylons, and will fight for control of the universe.
This comes after the announcement that NBC acquired 35% of Bigpoint. As a result, NBC logos can be seen in games like the upcoming GTA-esque Poisonville, slapped onto walls. Maybe there will be a "The Office" MMO. We can only hope.
Battlestar Galactica Online will launch and be playable for 30 days this fall exclusively on syfy.com.
