Matthew Vaughn Slated to Direct Thor Film

The God of Thunder is pleased

Thor's mystic hammer Mjolnir manipulates ferocious winds, boisterous bolts and pelting rain. And Marvel Studios has decided to grant mighty Mjolnir to Matthew Vaughn, red-hot director of "Stardust" and "Layer Cake."

After nearly linking up for X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, Marvel and Vaughn have struck a powerful accord to bring Thor and his expansive mythos to the big screen. As a director, Vaughn's films have been incredibly well-received. Both the gritty, underworld-flavored favorite "Layer Cake" and his latest effort "Stardust" have been praised by critics and fans alike. After seeing his latest effort, Premiere Magazine described the director by saying, "he can shift so smoothly between goofy and gruesome that you don't feel a thing that he doesn't want you to." His talent for meshing action, grit, fantasy and comedy is sure to play well with the God of Thunder.

Don't think that his résumé only includes these two movies, though. With producer credits for Guy Ritchie's opuses "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch," "Thor" is guaranteed to be a unique look at Lord Odin's favorite son. Onboard the Viking ship is writer Mark Protosevich, late of "Poseidon" and "The Cell." Story details are still under lock and key at the moment, but expect a fresh—yet faithful—approach to Thor's story.

Thor, being my second favorite comic book hero, has always been there when I was a kid. Including heroes such as Spiderman, Marvel itself was like a second home for me. And after calling it a good day when I watched the third Spiderman movie, I wondered what was next. I mean sure, we have The Dark Knight coming out, and i'm sure to love that one. Even Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

But then there's Thor. And man, did I love the Thor series. Thor was the hero that you loved to see kick serious *** with Mjolnir. And since I was a bit of a mythological nerd at the time (I still am actually XD), I loved how Thor was the son of Odin. There was alot of shakespearean style of play through out the comic, but it still had that great sense of marvel magic with the action.

And who directs it? Matthew Vaughn, known for movies such as Stardust. Now, i'm a bit iffy with this one. Because as much as I liked Stardust, I felt there were alot of plotholes left undug.

So: Matthew Vaughn : Directing Thor : Creator of movies like Stardust :...your thoughts?

Schweet... Sounds interesting, I'll look into it a bit more.

Re: Thor Film Announced

Finally some good ol' fashioned viking butt-kickin' for goodness on the big screen. Too bad they didn't think about this during Ah-nold's peak - he'd be perfect.
