TLC Crashes Constantly.

I haven't even been able to get out of the heroes guild yet. Every time I play, it will either...

a) Glitch when entering the Guild Woods,
b) Crash when skipping a cutscene / pressing Esc, or
C) Crash for no reason at all.

When I try to run the game again, I am prompted to use Saftey Mode (which doesn't help at all).

I have Free Roam and Application Suite installed but I'm not sure if that could be the issue. Other than that, no mods. I have Windows 5.1.

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

a) Don't enter the Guild Woods.
b) Don't skip cutscenes.
c) Hope for the best...?

Try cleaning the disc, maybe it's dirty and can't read it.

Please, please don't answer questions if you don't know what you're talking about. It does two things:
1.) It spreads misinformation for years to come; people will come here via Google all the time, read this, think you know what you're talking about, follow your advice, join the forum to say that they have this same problem and that your advice didn't work, and we're back at square one in a few months.
2.) It makes me feel obligated to answer a post that I would have otherwise ignored completely if only to prevent the previously mentioned outcome from happening.

He hadn't added all that extra stuff about what computer he had, whether he had safe mode running, etc. I had to work on the first three points. Please don't jump to conclusions.

Oh well, what's done is done. Let's get this over with."Glitch" can mean a lot of things, please specify what exactly happens.Which cutscene(s)? And does it also crash when you don't skip the same cutscene(s) These details are important. There's always a reason, you just don't know what it is.Of course it doesn't, safety mode only helps in instances where resources are involved (e.g., you have a DirectX 6 graphics card and you entered an area with many effects going all at once, *poof* crash). It doesn't help if there is an actual problem with the game itself.Mmhmm, and did you use any mods? Did you do any of your own modding of any kind? Did you touch any of the game files manually? Which tools did you use, if any? In what order did you do all of these things? Be detailed and specific, if I don't know everything you did exactly the way you did them, then it will be much harder to pull an answer out of my ass.Other than what? You installed the tools to not install mods? That doesn't make any sense. Why get the tools if you're not going to use them? That's a fancy way of saying that you have XP. This part usually doesn't matter but I like to know, would you like to tell us which edition? Home? Professional? Media Center? Is it x86 or x64? And if x86, is your CPU x86 or x64? What service pack do you have? SP2? SP3? What CPU do you have? How much RAM? What's your graphics card? Are you up to date on drivers? Are you sure you have the right drivers? Are you up to date on Windows/Microsoft Updates?

What you've told us so far is that there's a problem and Fable doesn't work. What you haven't tell us is... everything else. So get to it.

The Guild Woods glitch causes it to jam/loop when I try to walk through the archway. It doesn't quite get to the loading screen, and forces me to manually shut down Fable via Control Panel because I cannot exit through Options.

The Maze cutscene right after Oakvale, where the boy vomits and attempts to hit him. Sometimes I can skip it, others I can't. Sometimes I am forced to watch it all the way through (esc does not have any effect) only for it to crash when he is about to take me into the Guild for the first time. Not skipping the cutscenes does not prevent it from crashing. If I get past that part, it will crash after the cutscene of the Guildmaster testing my archery abilities. That point is the farthest I have managed to get.

I have not downloaded any mods *yet*, besides the +24 trainer included in Application Suite and Free Roam. I intended to use some scripts later on, and maybe create things of my own because I enjoy using 3Ds Max. I first installed the Application Suite, then installed Free Roam and the +24 trainer because I realized they were not default checked when I installed the Suite.

I have Home Edition. I will get back to you on the rest of it tonight, because my father knows the answers and I do not. It is his computer I am using.

I really appreciate your trying to help, but there was no extra stuff added. I had posted everything that is up now. My edit was because I thought I put it in the wrong forum, not because I changed or added information.

I can already tell you that it's not a problem with the game or game install, nor a problem with the tools. There is something else going on outside the scope of Fable, Fable modding, Fable hacking.

Never mind answering any of that other stuff, unless the answer is something that should really, really be mentioned such as you're dual-booting on a Mac or some such. So... what other processes are running when you play Fable? Would you happen to have the KLite Codec Pack? Windows Blinds? I'm not sure if you can get XP on Alienware anymore, but using the Alienware theme is known to sometimes cause a problem in playing Fable. And what sound card do you have? I've read that some people sometimes have problems with Fable using Sound Blaster, getting the most recent driver version will usually fix this if it's the problem.

I'm running out of ideas.

I have Skype running at all times. No KLite Codec Pack, and no Windows Blinds. I have RealTek HD Audio Output.

Should I try turning off Skype and seeing if it does the trick?

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

I'll have my father check out the computer sometime soon.

Anyways, you have been of exponentially more help than Yahoo Answers. Thanks +rep

Once we figure it out I'll post back here in case any one else has this issue as well.

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

Thanks. We'll have a look at it this weekend when my father has time. Until then I suppose I'll just continue to bookmark mods I like at the fabltlcmod forum and hope for the best.

Is there a Fable / Microsoft site that may be able to offer some additional help in the meantime? I didn't find anything using Google Search.

Oh... sorry, I guess I didn't fully read it. My bad

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

Update.

My father might have managed to stop it from crashing, but the issue was replaced with something else to be fixed. We installed Catalyst Control Center, which he said was needed, and assured me that once he installed it the game would stop crashing. I didn't get a chance to test it out though until recently, and even then it was only a few minutes. But I had faith in my dad's computer skills and didn't worry too much about it. It worked the whole time I played, but I didn't play long. So, it may or may not still crash.

But now, when I start fable, the screen that lists your save games is glitched. After the intro, regardless of whether or not I skip it, the menu (the "enter" screen thing that tells you to click) shows up for about half a second, and then the screen goes black. The cursor is still visible, the audio still works, but I cannot see the screen. When I tested fable a week ago that didn't happen, and to the best of my knowledge nothing has been changed since then.

Good lord.

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

Got it to start up, I just had to turn off something in the background.

It still freezes, this time when I exited the guild woods, but it didn't crash exactly. Just blinked black and froze.

Jeezus.

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

I actually considered using it anyways, back before I realized the game wasn't running properly, because I hate running anything full screen. But how exactly would it help me out of my current predicament?

EDIT: Yup, still crashes. Got out of the guild woods and thought I was safe, only for it to crash once again after archery training.

Re: TLC Crashes Constantly

Fixed it (kind of).

I had to create a new user account to be able to play the game. Click -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916908 for an explanation.

EDIT: I transferred my modding files from my normal account to this one, and the game crashed again. So, could it be a problem with those files, if it didn't crash before? Or was I just lucky one round and got farther than usual?

I've been told on a different site to uninstall and reinstall the game, so I'm going to try. But now it won't let me install it, and I get a "fatal error 1603" message. Whenever I actually manage to get it working, I'll post back, but I'm not going to continue wasting everyone's time reading this thread forever.

Thanks guys.
