Tony Hawk Will Ride Again!

Activision wasn't exactly thrilled with the reviews for Tony Hawk Ride, but that doesn't mean the publisher has given up on the franchise.

President and CEO of Activision Publisher Mike Griffith stated during the company's 2009 fiscal call a new Tony Hawk title is planned for release this year and confirmed it will again make use of the skateboard peripheral.

"Game ratings for Tony Hawk Ride weren't as high as we would have hoped last year. In hindsight, it took longer to optimize the hardware leaving less time to develop the software we launched in 2009," said Griffith. "Still, play testing and consumer feedback have been very encouraging. The premise of standing on a skateboard and performing tricks that only the pros can pull off is very compelling."

I used to love the Tony Hawk's series but I haven't really enjoyed any of the Tony Hawk's games since Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 or 4. The games just started to get quite stale for me immediately after those games. It just seemed like fewer and fewer new features and innovations were added but the difficulty was ramped up substantially with each iteration.

I'm kinda hoping - but I know it's not likely to happen anytime soon - that the Tony Hawks games will ditch the new skateboard controller and return to its barebones roots. I much preferred it when there was no "story" and there were just a dozen or so short missions which had endless replay value.

When the next review is just as poor as the last perhaps? Average scores have gone downhill for many years and its flogging a dead horse now. Neversoft vowed to stay true to skating and be a true gaming representation of the real thing. They went back on their word and turned it into an arcade game and people have simply stopped purchasing it.

I really liked the TH: Underground games and the older pro scater 3 for psx; Chad musk FTW! I think he shoulda stopped with underground 2. He's Losing his touch as he gets older. =/

Edit 1: On another note I would have liked to see Rodney Mullen come up with a game or two, he's my all time favorite, read his book at least 3 times all in one year.

Pro Skater 2, 3 and 4 then Underground 1 and 2 were amazing. Project 8 was terrible and Proving Ground... OMG. I didn't want to try Ride in case I cried.
