Too Much Hype?

Too Much Hype?

It happens a lot... a game far from release is confirmed.

A few features of it surface out bit by bit... players get anxious.

Sometimes they make up crap, this is called 'hype' (from my knowledge).

What I'm trying to ask is... is Fable III becoming to much hype?

What we think it will be, we say we WILL do this, we WILL do that, we WILL go there... but are we? I am scared everyone is seeing Fable III as something WAY over the roof than what it really is.

When release day comes, everyone will see that it is not at all what they expected. This will give the game a BAD taste, a BAD review, a BAD game overall.

What do you think? Is Fable III becoming to much Hype? Was it announced to early? What do you think of my theory?

i dont give a **** what "ign" or "gamespy" says about my fable 3 or my fallout new vegas!

So far all features mentioned have to my knowledge been backed up with video and demo evidence. PM is under strict instructions from the powers that be (microsoft) not to say too much as has been his habit. Even his twitter is strictly controlled!

Since time began (ok, well maybe not that far back) video games have been made out to be much much more than what they are - this is how they get people interested in the first place. I personally pay no attention to hype because it always ruins my gaming experience; I much prefer to have a go at it myself and make my own judgements. Hell, I don't even watch reviews unless I'm specifically advised to by someone (usually the person paying for my game :P) because I don't believe someone can be fully objective about a game.

For example, I must be the only person on the planet who does not think the sun shines out of BioWare's EA-stamped backside - I think they are really starting to suck and make crappier games with each year that rolls around. Now if I read the hype and watched the reviews of their latest tat, I'd be thinking "wow! they are awesome! I want to be them!" or whatever. Instead, I purchase the game for myself, find it to be not all that amazing or even adequate in places and make my assessments from there.

Fable II was talked about a lot and Peter Molyneux obviously adores what he does and will often make promises he either can't or doesn't intend to keep - but it's ok by my standing because at least he holds his hands up at the end of it all and says "yeah, well we tried that and it didn't work" or "ok so I promised this but didn't deliver - silly me". Not many developers do that, as far as I'm concerned, and they ought to.

Angel does make a good point =) and PM will let things slip as this early on in development they will have to let things go or water it down but its a fact of life and hapens in almost all media.

I agree with you on the bioware topic as well gameplay is severely suffering atm. However i do enjoy the story lines of MAss effect (when you strip away the OMFG ALIEN SMEX!!! they have good ideas and underlying themes)

I only believe what I've seen on video, I really hope at least 80% of what he says makes it in though. I'd even be fine with going back to fable tlc graphics for better gameplay. although I would think they would need to though.

I don't recall seeing any made up crap regarding Fable 3. Sometimes it's just speculation, and when it is, no one believes the person unless they have proof of any information. What I'm afraid of is the cool aspects of the game will become boring quickly after the game is released, for example the touch system, it sounds cool and for the first few times it is cool, but then no one cares after a while. That's what's making me scared.

Well the Graphics vs gameplay thing isnt an issue. Fable 2 may have suffered due to it being their first game on a new platform. They had to build everything from scratch. With fable 3 they have a solid foundation to work from. Hopefully this will allow for more concentration on gameplay and following through with promised features. If you think about it this issue may have been similar with the first Fable. It was lionheads first game on the platform as well as the first in the series. This may account for the limited game length and exclusion of features.

When someone says ''Hype'' I think more in the ways off MW 2:P Now that ,sir! Was Hyped. Fable 3 so far isn't really Hyped just yet. It's more of a guessing what will be in it and what not. Who knows, when we get closer to the release this game might get hyped as well

Hang on... I don't want you guys to think I am SAYING Fable III is too much Hype, I am simply implying that it might be and asking your opinion.

I am a very confused individual.

I really wonder what Fable III will be.

The best way to avoid hyping a game up and getting dissapointed when it comes out: Just don't. Seriously, I got really hyped up about Fable 2 which is why it was a bit of a dissapointment when it came out. With hindsight, however, I realise that that was my fault for getting so excited over it.
If you just take everything in stride and go, 'Yeah that would be cool.' but accept that it might ot actually happen, you'll never get dissapointed.

Unless it is actually a **** game.

It is overhyped just like the other Fable games were. There's no way to stop the hype when that molyneux is in control

My only concern with 3 is the character buildup, since you don't really level up anymore.

Once again its going to have to be said, you can't expect every single game to be perfect, but I hope fable III is different, I personally have high expectations for it. Everyone should have warned not to fully rely on the evidence that has been given out about the upcoming features for Fable III because I've found in the past for fable II that some features that were going to be put into fable 2 infact weren't. But for the true fable fans you can never have to much hype. But this is just my opinion.

My only concern with 3 is the character buildup, since you don't really level up anymore.

^Same here cause how is the muscle and height going to factor in? like iv said before i want to be very strong but not look like im popping steroids and stay skinny.

There's things to display these things that I think are better than muscles, wings for example. I mean thats great, yeah people are going to say its not realistic but people will have to either like it or not play it at all. But I'm sure we're all going to enjoy it when it comes up. Personally I can't wait.
